The Cash family owns(ed?) property in Jamaica, and my family went there often when i was growing up. The Montego Bay airport was fairly small, intimate, and desolate. One visit, i believe in 1991, we were waiting in line and my dad began to whisper that Johnny Cash was in line behind us. And there he was. He was dressed all in black, button-down long sleeves and pants in 100+ degree weather. He stood quietly while June and another lady chattered away animatedly. My father turned around and introduced himself and us. Mr. Cash was very poilte and gentlemanly. He did not say much. He did take the time to shake hands and to ask where we were from. My dad asked how he was doing, and Mr. Cash thanked him and replied, " Just fine." There was a certain... quietness about him. i enjoyed meeting him. Whenever i listen to the more heartbreaking and tormented of his songs, i think of the quiet man in black in the airport who heard that whistle blowin' but ended up just fine.
