Yep, you thought it was going to be good, last a lifetime--you got a tattoo, it ended...

now what do you do with that tat?

possibly get it covered with a bigger design so it all but disappears into the new tattoo.

I have lots of tats but they're all for spiritual or rites of passage purposes. I would never even think of getting one for someone I'm in a relationship with unless we've been together for numerous years. If after that point I had one though and for some reason we ended the relationship then I would just live with it and accept it as a mark of my history in life.

I always tell people though..if you're thinking of getting a tat, think long and hard about how it will impact your life and what changes will occur once you have one and never ever ever ever get a name or kanji! <shudder>

Get it covered up with another tattoo or go for the laser treatment

Hello,
I have a mark  from my previous Owner. I still bear it just as i do others:  a quite nice tattoo with a meaning--a memory of one period of my life. Master could have it covered or eradicated if he wished, but he has never mentioned doing so.

Best,
aj

I just wanted to say, I'm sorry it ended. Some people are douchebags that leave you bleeding with a dagger in the back. The good news is that you can laser it off and then get another tat to cover the scar that it leaves. It sort of leaves a white pigment on your flesh where you get it lasered (the process resurfaces your skin), but a good artist can easily work with it on a new design.

Ditto to Littlewonder.  The tattoo is a symbol of something for you at that time.  Just because you've grown into someone else doesn't mean who you were was any less sincere or powerful.

You can always persuade your new partner to change their name to the one on the tattoo.

I'd probably keep it. There are no mistakes or coincidences and there's a reason I have it. But, for others, the journey would be removing it or covering it. The decision is a pretty subjective and individualistic.

Wow, sorry about that one..you must have really been in deep to have his mark on you.  I am not a tat person myself...don't like needles.  I would say if you are really done with him, get it removed or cover it up or put ____ is a pig after the name...

i am getting a tattoo, and it is a name and it is kanjii. But... the name is His name for me, g. And the kanjii has been checked with multiple sources to make sure it is the one that says 'jii'.

Even if we part company, it will mark a part of my life that was a turning point, one that changed me for the better. i would not consider changing it or covering it.

I would personally cherish it. All scars, tattoos and such are remnants of the past. They show where you've been and what you've done.

I am undecided still.  I thought about changing it.  I thought about removing it.  I thought about keeping it as a reminder of a significant period in my life which turned my world around.  I thought about keeping it as a reminder of where I will never go again.

No rush...if and when it feels right to do something, I will.  It doesn't have his name.  It is an insignia he created with his initials woven through, but you can't tell they are letters unless it's pointed out.  It's on my hip so I don't see it anyway.  And it is seriously unlikely I would ever be permanently marked for somebody again.  But in truth, I don't see it, and I don't think about it, so it's not really an issue for me.

I always swore that I would never get a name tattooed on myself.  There is one name (so far) that I want on my body forever, and that is my Son's.  Other than that, Never.  My ex wanted to get my name on Him.  I told Him that He wasn't aloud to. (we weren't into the lifestyle lol)  So He didn't.  less than a year later we split up.  However, I wish that he woulda got the one that he REALLY was thinking about getting.  We used to call each other "Love".  And He wanted to get that on the back of his neck.  I thought that would be really neat. and then, if (when) we split up, and he moved on, he wouldn't have to explain it.  it could be a reminder to himself, but not to his new girlfriend.  But he never got it :(

I think that a symbol or something of the sort would be really nice.  for the same reason.  You wouldn't have to explain it, but it could be a reminder to yourself that you were once happy with that person (if not, I'd have to think you wouldn't get a tattoo for them).

A friend of my mom's was married for like 12 years when His wife died.  He got a tattoo (his first and only) in her memory.  It is really sweet, and had the nickname that he called her on it.  He asked my mom (who he was actually seeing at the time) if it bothered her.  She said no, and asked me what I though.  I told her that I thought it was sweet.  It wasn't like they split up.  She was taken from him. There was a differance.  I wouldn't feel bad about it.  They were in a really good relationship.  But that's just my thoughts.

Getting tattoo's and other body mods for me are a hard limit.  Since I think they're ugly and I would likely never want them on my body, So I will never likely have to worry about that.

However should something change and I get a tattoo I'd choose something they liked and had to do with what they had in mind and I liked, and that I would enjoy even if we broke up.

i have seven tattoos.  and i can honestly say i dont regret any of them.  one was drawn for me by someone who really wanted to be with me, but it never would have happened, he was married.  another was a rememberance for my first dominant, who passed away 4 years ago.  two more are neat celtic knots, one yellow rose for texas and a butterfly in the shape of a J for my first husband.  he's a dork, but i only have  a butterfly, he has my name.

the latest one, which reads "Daddys Little Girl"  is more about who i am than who i am to him.  and even if things didnt work out in the marriage i wouldnt regret it.  i think there will be one more, calla lillies for fallcon who passed away 2 years ago.

I go along with most of the others.  I don't mind having the reminders of things in the past.  Everthing that has happened has helped me be who I am now.
