Yes, college football's post season of meaningless bowl games spread from early DEC to JAN leads to fan apathy and confusion. Overall the post season is somewhere between annoying, irrelevant, and arcane.

Still, I did manage to watch the Bowl Championship game, and after seeing it, I concluded that Bob Stoops was stupid. NFL offers won't come his way after that coaching debacle. Did anyone else draw the same conclusion?

I feel asleep after half time.
Tim Tebow annoys me.  Always.
I figured the Gators would win.

it isn't about the game, its about the ratings and a chance for advertisers to spend a ton of money to sell you meaningless crap--didn't you know that?

He threw six first half points away, which probably would have keyed an OU win.

Yep,I couldn't believe after the way they ran the ball they couldn't score from the 5 on 4 downs!...Sam looked less like a Heisman winner than Tebow did!...I also didn't understand all the setting then looking over to re-check the play call! If you are going to run a no huddle...RUN THE DAMN NO HUDDLE!...but, will have to hear about the Gators for another year! Congrats Gator fans....but, only under duress!

The only Div. III and up championship in any NCAA sport that is NOT decided by a playoff...is Div. I football.

It is appropiate that the arrogance and typical incompetence of the capitalist has him miss the immense advertising potential of an 'actual' championship game. Keeping all of the other bowls...he could parley such a playoff into the second biggest football game of the year in this country.

It is of the beauty found in the queen's english that we come up with the appropiately expressed Beauty Contest System. No better way to describe what we have now.

The game between these two beauties just offers them a chance for a makeover and Florida came out...the more beautiful.

I was surprised Choklahoma was able to keep it that close because their defense stinks just like the other defenses throughout the Big 12. They're just another one of the high flying offenses in that conference that got exposed when they finally had to play a defense with a pulse.

We have a daughter who is a Gator, so we were happy to them win.   I would certainly prefer to see a tournament, maybe the top 16 teams,  replace the bowl games.  I wonder how Utah would of done given a chance in a tournament.

As an avid Sooner fan, I am very disappointed in how the game turned out, but c'mon... One national championship under his belt, and we at least made it to play for 3 other NCG's during his time. So he gets us to 4 National Championship games in 9 years, but because he doesn't win every game, every time, he's just not good enough? That 60-2 record at home is of course Dismal.

As unhappy as I am to watch us lose our bowl games year after year as of late, Bob is still the best coach we've had in a long time. Who wants to go back to the Schnellenburger or Blake days? Not me... I hope the NFL offers don't come his way... but then again, he's already pulling in over 6 Million a year, why would he want the NFL anyway?

abysmal playcalling by oklahoma.  bad officiating(par for the course).  another year, another game between two of many one loss teams, another sham of a title... funny thing, urban would be having kittens if he were still the coach of utah...

Big conferences dominating Division I football = no playoff
No playoff = we don't have a fucking clue who the best team is

If there was an actual playoff system, you can be certain that at least half of those worthless "Bowl" games wouldn't even exist because the sponsors wouldn't be able to exploit them the way they do now. If a playoff system ever does come about, it should go back to the standard games that once existed, being the Rose Bowl, Cotton Bowl, Orange Bowl, and Sugar Bowl, all without any corporate names superceding those titles!!

Well, that's part of the reason why it hasn't happened.

The other part is that no one wants a small-conference team like Utah to win the national championship.  The only way they can possibly win it is in an open tournament.  There's a lot of money at stake!

Those are good points. I would not deny that OU is an elite football program, but I felt that Stoops threw the game away by not kicking FGs in the first half and by not realizing the role defense and field position would play in the game.

The first time we were down near the end zone, I agreed with going for the touchdown. I didn't agree with trying the SAME play time after time, but with the time left in the game and the score, it was the right call. Our defense was holding Florida back very well, and if we didn't make it Florida would be starting at the 1. I think Stoops did realize what field position meant and had that in mind. The next time, I think he would have went for the field goal. We had time. It was only because of a very rare tipped interception did we not get those 3 points. Things happen.

All in all it was a combination of unmotivated players, bad officiating, and some bad play calling. Thats college football. Florida played a good game against what was one of the top football teams in the country. Props to them.

On an off note, we really really need Mike Stoops to come back to Oklahoma with his brother Bob. Mike was the motivator of the team. He also wasn't scared of Bob and would tell him when he was wrong. I think if we had someone there again to motivate the players and question the coach a little more, we'd be back to actually WINNING our bowl games.

As I'm related to many Gator alum, and current Gators I'm happy with the outcome.  I do favor a tournament/playoff system though.
