simpleplan2 -> Nicks (1/10/2009 5:10:31 AM)

I'm sure this has been done to death, but I wonder how many people stop and really think about the name they choose.  When I see "extreme" or "unforgiving" or even the popular "Dr. Pain", there's NO WAY I'm going to contact him, but I know that's just me and I am sure that some will find that quite appealing.

Take my nick, for example...I happened to be listening to Simple Plan on the radio when I created it.  I could just as easily have named myself Beyonce or Usher [image]http://www.collarchat.com/micons/m16.gif[/image]

Since I find the origin of words and phrases fascinating...what's the story behind your nick?

mc1234 -> RE: Nicks (1/10/2009 5:13:44 AM)

Just a play on my real name initials adding an easy number string after ... nothing special!  [:)]

JustDarkness -> RE: Nicks (1/10/2009 5:20:01 AM)

JustDarkness
from Justme...which was my name here before and in a p2p release group and on chatrooms where I was mod/admin.
Darkness I use often on other forums because I like dark stuff like horror, occult etc etc.

I needed a new name and pulled the 2 together.

simpleplan2 -> RE: Nicks (1/10/2009 5:22:09 AM)

Yeah, pretty much "regular" reasons.  But I have to think that the "extreme" names were chose for a reason, don't you think?

T1981 -> RE: Nicks (1/10/2009 5:23:35 AM)

I'm not so creative with nicknames, so I just chose the intial of my first name and the year I was born. But I do understand the confusion over some people's nicknames, I have seen some nicknames that make tilt my head to the side and say "That doesn't seem.....safe!"

 I'd guess shock factor.

CatdeMedici -> RE: Nicks (1/10/2009 5:24:10 AM)

Catherine deMedici was My great great Aunt.

MsFlutter -> RE: Nicks (1/10/2009 5:25:34 AM)

Amazing - I was wondering this myself. Nice timing !

Couple reasons:

An idea that really strikes my fancy always makes my imagination flutter at the possibilities.

(I can also amuse myself for hours with my camera and an accommodating butterfly [sm=kiss.gif] )

as BT says propably shockfactor..or things they like.

I noticed some profiles with names like extremeanaltorture...that they disappear as fast as they come.

agirl -> RE: Nicks (1/10/2009 5:38:15 AM)

I decided on *agirl* because it was extremely basic and doesn't really 'say' anything other than ..I'm a girl. I've kept my profile the same way.

agirl

alysia -> RE: Nicks (1/10/2009 5:45:24 AM)

alysia is the name Master chose to give His property :)

sometimes simple can be very affective..
love the name... it says nothing..and at the same time all.

Evility -> RE: Nicks (1/10/2009 5:50:05 AM)

Truth in advertising.

colouredin -> RE: Nicks (1/10/2009 5:52:29 AM)

When i first joined the net I was always colour_less (teenage hormones, general depression) when I stumbled into a chat room about D/s a rather wonderful man talked about me and asked if it still applied, I thought probably not and so changed it to this, still recognisable but a fuller brighter human being

Aneirin -> RE: Nicks (1/10/2009 6:04:23 AM)

Mine is just a name I used to use as a weekend warrior, a battle re-enactor. I like the name and it says nothing in any direction except perhaps those interested in celtia might know it from there.

Though, I would be inclined to agree, some of the nicks used here, make me shudder, and I do wonder what goes through a person's mind when they ally themselves to something not nice in our present society, as if we need to be reminded of the ills of our era.

Just a web name, perhaps it means nothing except something different on a web were original nicks are getting hard to find, but it is not cool, nor funny to liken oneself to the evil in our midst.

ALAstella -> RE: Nicks (1/10/2009 6:07:21 AM)

We are into simplicity.

barelynangel -> RE: Nicks (1/10/2009 6:24:20 AM)

For my nickname,  its a tribute to a Man who left us way to young but he gave it to me.

i was sitting in the garage one day in my favorite past time, pretty new to being owned and painting my toenails talking to Master while he fixed some bike for someone - grins handing him wrong tools when he asked for a tool  - why he asked me when his tool box was right next to him too lol i will never know as he always complained i gave him the wrong one lol.  I was already nicknamed angel for years prior to this -- because i was such a one ya know!!His best friend walked in the garage and came over and kissed me (faints) and proclaimed to my Master, You are sooo lucky to own such an angel.  To my horror lol my Master snorted, not soft or whatever, but so loud lol i was mortified lol.  So i wrinkled my nose and stuck my tongue out at him lol and his best friend saw and laughed so hard and said, okay barely an angel, but still an angel.   Soo lol from that day forward to his best friend lol i was barelynangel.

He was killed before my eyes a couple years after that when a drunk driver hit him while he was on his bike.  I am very protective of the name and it irritates me when people arbitrarily shorten it to barely because they are too lazy to type the whole thing or address me as i sign my posts.  This is why i am protective of it, it means something very special to me.

angel

oceanwynds -> RE: Nicks (1/10/2009 6:31:22 AM)

My s/n is my normal s/n i have used for many years. It is not related to Ds. I am at home with the ocean and the winds. Have another s/n wisdomofgiving that i use when i go into Ds chatrooms.

DarkSteven -> RE: Nicks (1/10/2009 6:40:28 AM)

The Steven part is pretty obvious.

I added Dark as a play on words.  I am physically dark (Mediterranean looks), and it hints of the darkness of D/s.

kyraofMists -> RE: Nicks (1/10/2009 6:42:05 AM)

Kyra is a name I wanted to give to a girl if I ever decided to have children.  Well at 34 when I became his it was pretty obvious that I was not going to have kids, so I now use Kyra.

There are a couple ways to pronounce the name.  I pronounce it the same way Kyra Sedgewick does or a better example maybe the character Kyra in the Chronicles of Riddick 2.  This is one of the first movies that the three of us watched together and there is one scene when she tells Riddick her new name, "It's Kyra now, I'm a new animal".  It seemed fitting that I start using Kyra now that I am on a very different path than what I have chosen in the past.

The 'of Mists' part, I think is a result of Alandra's favorite book; she will have to tell the story.  It is a way to show that I belong to this family.

Knight's Kyra
