sort of off-topic...go figure!....quick cooking story that Holly will enjoy.....it was my sister's turn for Thanksgiving.  Kids are about 2 or so...running around like they do....well, my mom was afraid that they'd try to open the oven door or something like that, so she "locked" the door shut.  Unfortunately, the lever she threw was the self-cleaning mechanism, fortunately, she'd told my sister that she'd "secured" the oven door closed!  With a 35 lb turkey inside it!!!!

The guys ended up taking the entire top off of the stove to rescue the bird......before the oven heated up to 800 degrees!  Apparently, it didn't cross anyone's mind to pop the breaker for the stove......at least at first.  The bird was unscathed, and finished cooking up nicely.  Mom was totally embarassed, and still is to this day!

LOL, Soul!

A co-worker used to bring this one to all the pot lucks:
3lb frozen (or homemade) appetizer-size meatballs
2 cans pineapple with juice
2 jars sweet & sour sauce
High for 2 hours, low for 2 hours
Those things were always gone in the first 5 minutes! [:D]

GimpinDenial -> RE: CrockPottery (or 'What's NEXT for dinner?) (1/12/2009 6:42:52 PM)

dangit, I had a recipe for meatballs like that...But it had grape jelly as one of the ingredients....
Now I cannot find it....
Seriously...grape jelly (was a secret a friend kept from me for awhile)
Suckers were goooooooooooooooood!
(gonna scrounge the web for a similar recipe...)

WyldHrt -> RE: CrockPottery (or 'What's NEXT for dinner?) (1/12/2009 9:45:57 PM)

I've heard of the grape jelly thing, Gimp. I used to have a recipe for ham glaze that included cherry pie filling, it was wonderful!

BTW all, guess who just bought herself a 5 quart crockpot in honour of this thread? [:D]
Okay okay, I bought it because trying to stuff 3.5lbs of  1/2 frozen roast into a 3qt crockpot was more than a tad ridiculous...

soul2share -> RE: CrockPottery (or 'What's NEXT for dinner?) (1/12/2009 9:53:37 PM)

A friend just gave me a brand new, in the box 7 quart crock pot.....oh, the chili I can make in that.....wooo-hoo!

WyldHrt -> RE: CrockPottery (or 'What's NEXT for dinner?) (1/12/2009 9:58:15 PM)

I nearly bought the 6 qt, Soul, but it was twice the price and too big for the crock to overnight in my tiny fridge when I want to do the prep work the night before (like I usually do, lol).

soul2share -> RE: CrockPottery (or 'What's NEXT for dinner?) (1/12/2009 10:09:04 PM)

Yeah, that may be an issue when I store the stuff.....thank goodnes for my tupperware and rubbermaid stuff!

Of course, 7 quarts of chili may not be easy to store no matter what it's in!!!!  But it freezes great, and the folks at work like it too......(glad I'M not riding around in the car after they eat it!!!!)

WyldHrt -> RE: CrockPottery (or 'What's NEXT for dinner?) (1/12/2009 10:28:24 PM)

Just don't bring it in to share when there is an all-hands meeting planned [:D]

Rainfire -> RE: CrockPottery (or 'What's NEXT for dinner?) (1/13/2009 3:52:47 AM)

[:(]  I want a little 3 quart crockpot but can't find them anymore. All I can find is the big ones. We got a 6.5 qt one for a wedding gift and if there was more than just the 2 of us, it would be beautiful. Cooks like a dream. But with the small quantities I need to make, it's simply too big.

Oh, and about the grape jelly meatball recipe, oh my goodness, what yummies!!! Is this similar to what you're looking for?

GRAPE JELLY MEATBALLS

1 lb. ground beef
2 c. white bread crumbs
1 pkg. dry onion soup
1 egg
1 tsp. dried parsley flakesMix all ingredients. Shape into balls and arrange in baking dish. Bake at 350 degrees for 30-45 minutes. Don't overbake.

 SAUCE:1 jar Heinz Chili Sauce
1 med. jar grape jelly

Mix sauce in crock pot. Put meatballs in sauce. Heat for about 1 hour before serving. (If meatballs were made and refrigerated the night before, give yourself at least 2 hours of crockpot time before serving.)

You might also try looking at Schwann's website for great recipes. *sighs*  I miss my Schwann's delivery..... [&o]

KMsAngel -> RE: CrockPottery (or 'What's NEXT for dinner?) (1/13/2009 3:54:53 AM)

GimpinDenial -> RE: CrockPottery (or 'What's NEXT for dinner?) (1/13/2009 4:41:12 PM)

Thanks, Rain,....
it is similar, and I will have to try it to make them and see if they taste the same...

OMG!!!  I just unpacked the 7 quarter....I thought the box was just big...I don't have anywhere to put the thing!!!!!  We're talking chili for 20, lasagne for 20......I can't WAIT to use it!  mmmmm...I just thought of chicken wings......nomnomnom!
Looks like it's a run to the grocery store for me!
