If it was a Nazi symbol would we be having this discussion?

Most likely not, as Nazi symbols and paraphernalia are outlawed in Germany.

the section in blue is from this link

http://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Basic_Law_for_the_Federal_Republic_of_Germany
Article 13 (Inviolability of the home).  (1) The home is inviolable.
(2) Searches may be ordered only by a judge or, in the event of danger in delay, by other organs as provided by law and may be carried out only in the form prescribed by law.
(3) Otherwise, this inviolability may be encroached upon or restricted only to avert a common danger or a mortal danger to individuals, or, pursuant to a law, to prevent imminent danger to public security and order, especially to alleviate the housing shortage, to combat the danger of epidemics or to protect endangered juveniles

read the segments above in red
The flags were inciting a group a people causing them to become agitated and to ensure things  did not escalate further  to possible violence police pulled down the flags to restore public order and diffuse a situation  and the basic law is written it can be interpreted in such a manner to suggest that the police were within their right and acted legally

I do recognize that in the heat of the issue the Police had to defuse the sitution.  However they allowed people to hang around for hours afterwards, yelling racist insults at people, after the violence.

Do you have any proof of this, other than the word of P ? He also stated rocks and knives were thrown at his flat, yet I didnt see any of that on the video he took himself. You seem to accept all his claims at face value, without any verification.

As for your statement about nazi flags and being able to talk people out of it, you should read up on the recent rise of the right wing, especially in East Germany and Eastern Europe.

right wing always seems...then and now..to chose the right words to attract people in bad economical situations.
And sometimes it seems the only way to open other politic parties to focus again on these outcasts..and not forget them. Sadly..it often seems to be like this.

Polite sub, I already posted a follow up article from Spiegel online.... http://www.spiegel.de/international/germany/0,1518,601122,00.html   you can read it if you like.

Yes, in places where Neo Nazos are forced underground, they are increasing in power and number.  Which is why I think they should be out in public and challenged.
