US Airways plane goes down in Hudson River

"NEW YORK – A US Airways plane has crashed into the Hudson River, sending passengers fleeing for safety in the frigid waters.

Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Laura Brown says the US Airways Flight 1549 had just taken off from LaGuardia Airport enroute to Charlotte, N.C., on Thursday when the crash occured.

Brown says the plane, an Airbus 320, may have been hit by birds.
New York City firefighters are responding to the crash. It was not immediately clear if there were injuries."

Im watching live local  coverage now.  The piolet landed it where the people could come out on the wing and some have already be taken out. From what I can see the plane is totally submerged with the exception of the tail fin.
They are getting them out  with the help of the ferries in the area.

That is good, hopefully the rescuers can get everyone out quickly.  Hypothermia is a real danger in this type of situation.

Update: the police are reporting by scanner that all 151 people have been removed including the flight crew. They are quickly being transported to local area hospital as quickly as possible since there is a big chance of hyperthemia.

Of course this is early reporting

the last report I heard said all the people got out ok...

but there were 5 pets in the cargo hold :(

Crashed during takeoff, birds probably involved?  They likely sucked a bird into their "critical" engine while on climbout.  In multies - whether jet or prop - one specific engine is consider the "critical" engine.  If it goes out, you are Going to crash rather than being able to climb out the rest of the way.  A controled ditch where they wouldn't hit someone's house was their best course of action if something like that happened.

And now, hundreds of conspiracy theorists are frantically typing away at their keyboards, updating their blogs [8D] .

Don't they know, conspiracies don't exist?  Geeeeeeeeeeeez.  Stupid theorists always trying to figure things out.  They should just shut up and believe what they're told!  Everything is as the powers-that-be say, THE END!

Glad I got that off my chest, the tinfoil hat retards were starting to get on my nerves.

Jeesh, dude... why, do you have a blog :-) ? And... tinfoil... it just doesn't go with my golden curls.

Gosh, I'm glad everyone got out okay... tragic about the pets though...

So, how could this have happened? It was a highly complex peice of American technology... You know, like a nuclear reactor... those can't go wrong either...

You can bet there are literally thousands of West facing office workers in Manhattan who, about 4 hours ago, are very much not planning on coming back to work until at least Tuesday.

I can't even imagine what went through their heads and hearts as they watched that airplane veer towards them as they sat typing their letters, or grabbing a phone call at that moment.

I can imagine what they thought - but really, it's immaterial, what went through people's minds.

It was an Airbus, that's why it happened. Those damned Europeans, making our lives miserable once again....

I think I would've sucked up the seat cushion, if I didn't bail out under the desk first.

kittin, why do you post that?  it does matter what they thought!

girlygurl -> RE: US Airways flight just went into the Hudson River (1/15/2009 6:38:06 PM)

I'm thankful there were no serious injuries.

ThatDaveGuy69 -> RE: US Airways flight just went into the Hudson River (1/15/2009 6:42:17 PM)

I don't know what went through their heads but I'm pretty sure it was blood going through their hearts... :D

I'm amazed there were no serious injuries!
But considering how cynical I am, I suspect that by this time tomorrow, several of them will be in in hospital beds with lawyers at their sides...
