NCNutCase -> RE: Bowing to God - Your Take? (1/17/2009 3:55:07 PM)

Although today I am no longer practicing nor do I "believe in" their religion as a whole (simple disclaimer)…

Prior to discovering BDSM I hung out with and for a while lived with the Hare Krishnas. Within their practice, I bowed to ‘God’ many times a day and sometimes bowed to humans whom I highly respected.

On the rare occasions I visit their temples currently I still bow to their dieties of God to offer respect and appreciation for my time living there…

I’ve had submissive girlfriends come with me to these temples on two occasions since I’ve been practicing BDSM and both times I simply asked them to be respectful and discouraged them from bowing (neither did).

Back in the day while living with the Krishnas I traveled with a swami for a few months. In this lifestyle I often reflect on those months as my real life experience as being a ‘submissive’ or ‘servant’… I learned a lot in those months, including that it feels unnatural for me to be in the role of a servant to a human being, no matter how much I value, respect and appreciate them.

To me, I heard it best from an old Indian Chief many years ago.....

"Where ever I step is Holy Ground, I give thanks to each step I take and to those who step with me or step on this ground"

His meaning was very simple, we all owe something to more than ourselves now matter what we choose to call it.  He choose to call it MotherEarth, for it gave him everything he needed and he treated it with that respect.

The qoute, was to the US Congress, back in the late 1800's, his  Great-Grandson told me the story as we walked.
