I am sorry for your loss and I am glad to hear he did not suffer greatly... cancer is a nasty beast..and way too many are afflicted and fighting it.. I have spoken to 6 others over the last couple of months ... 5 of which are on the otherside of CM that are currently battling

Hi Christina Just read an article in a recent issue on Science (Jan. 2, 2009, p. 30) about a researcher, Charles Cobb, M.D. (at Pacific Medical Center in SF, CA) who's come up with a radical new hypothesis on the cause of gliablastoma. His idea is that gliablastoma is caused by CMV (cytomegalovirus- a herpes virus). Since the virus has been shown to cause a host of immune system related ailments, it's possible that the virus basically prevents the body's immune system from dealing with the precancerous tumors effectively and the full blown cancer develops in these cases. It's at least an intriguing hypothesis. HTH Sam

Christina I'm so sorry to hear about your fathers passing. I will certainly keep you and your family in my prayers. I had never heard of this type of tumor until reading it here. My sister has a meningioma tumor that is inoperable. At this point she isn't having any major physical issues with it . This one is small and they are just watching and waiting to see if it continues to grow . This is her second brain tumor and I too believe it was her exposure to chemicals she dealt with on a daily basis at her job. Did your dad experience any personality changes? My sister seems to be. scarlet

My condolences. We buried my aunt on December 8th. She also was diagnosed with glioblastoma. Her sister died 15 years earlier with the same form of cancer. I'm kind of panicky because if this trend follows, my mother will be next. However, my aunt was a secretary for the State of Michigan. She never served in VietNam. She never was involved with a lot of chemicals. She didn't ever have a lot of dental work done as a child or even a younger adult, so can't blame the x-ray machines before the 50's either. No one knows why. We only know she's gone and that my cousins miss her terribly. So, my thoughts are with you. juliet
