no bloggers quoting articles please.and a lunatic right wing blog,?... c`mon......

Like Stg. Joe Friday, the facts.Just the facts.

So it gets reported on page 103, so what? Dead people get mentioned back there, along with  the daily dog catcher news, whatever

I don`t recall a hoopla over it.

If someone`s going to say that there was a fuss over it ,prove it.There was no fuss. Not like this one.....[:D]

MarsBonfire -> RE: $150 million for inauguration (1/21/2009 3:11:54 PM)

So, according to the paper today...

1.8 million people were in D.C. for the swearing in.

Now, let's see... if each of those people spent a scant $100 each while there... on food, hotel, Obama trinkets, extra blankets and winter wear, hookers, drugs, taking in shows, tours, or what have you... and the state took, say $8.00 of that for sales tax... How much PROFIT would the local government make on it's expendeture of $150 million?

Not to mention the businesses that probably did better on this than they did through the whole of the "flat" Christmas season... jobs were created, businesses were saved from closing, and homes kept from being forclosed upon...

MarsBonfire -> RE: $150 million for inauguration (1/21/2009 3:14:23 PM)

Oh, and the other item in the paper today... I guess Bush had a Presidential "wrap party" in TX last night too... the tickets were free.  They had almost 2000 empty seats. Not even the GOP harliners showed up.

Oh good grief. $150 mil is nothing for an event as large as this one. It probably generated MANY times that much in revenue for local businesses, airlines, etc.... Which means, in the end, a lot of that money will trickle back into the coffers in the form of taxes.

Why were so many of the same people with this this viewpoint criticizing Bush's inauguration 4 years ago then?  That's the humorous part.

Because Bush was headlining that affair and ummm.... that's just not a money maker unless someone is throwing shoes.

PanthersMom -> RE: $150 million for inauguration (1/21/2009 5:10:04 PM)

i'm not going to read thru five pages of bs.  my question is, can he actually say spending it created jobs for those dc area folks that have been out of work?  if so, how many new hires continue to have a job next week?

How else would you launch a 'superstar' administration. You know how hard it is to create a distraction for the 'mouth gaped' audience while the magician does his 'magic'? That's expensive!

All things considered this is only about a 6.6 on the hypocrisy scale.

I imagined obama doing a magic trick where he turns a one hundred dollar bill into one hundred pennies.

now that I think of it, Gob reminds me of Obama and his campaign quite a bit...

Just how much revenue will the event generate for the D.C. area.Hotels and restraunts overflowing, surely even CollarMe spinmiesters will agree this is a good thing.

spending public money is ok if certain private individuals prosper?

Personally as a taxpayer I'd rather pay for that than let someone steal it with a war profiteering contract, or spend it in kickbacks to their friends in the industry they're supposed to be regulating, or on prostitutes for kinky sex while advertising their high moral values.

It's a historic event, and someone's got to pay to rent the porta-pots, etc. for all the people that are planning to go.

I'd rather not be forced to pay for any of that...

but I suppose I'm crazy that way.

While it's true that Obama's already spending our money like a drunken sailor, Obama only promised that "Once we get through this economic crisis, we’re going to have to embrace a culture of responsibility, all of us, corporations, the federal government, & individuals who may be living beyond their means."

that's very...keynesian of him.

it's impressive. the combined cost of the iraq and afghanistan war was under 1 trillion (stopped counting in the early fall). obama will be able to put us into more debt in one year with one program than bush was able to in more than half a decade of wars...

bravo.

I've heard from a few people that they found obama bumbling the presidential oath to be endearing or humanizing.

I asked them if they thought bush bumbling a speech was endearing or humanizing.

they ignored the question.

Aynne88 -> RE: $150 million for inauguration (1/21/2009 8:30:19 PM)

Obama didn't bumble it, Robert's did, he admitted and the press, left and right, are in agreement. What is not endearing is repeating incorrect bi-partisan information.

Edited to add your own condescending *sigh* It is tiring isn't it?  All that misinformation out there, and the constant references to the Messiah and Dear Leader. How clever of you all, I mean, with all of the wondrous things Bush did and all.[8|]

No worries, O59.  I'm sure these things will show up in your posts soon enough.  Probably on the very day they show up in your talking points email inbox.

If you ever decide to express an independent thought, be sure to indicate it in your thread title.

I`m afraid this will be the quality of criticism that President Obama will be getting.

Poor to childish to mis-informed to irrational.

Just wait till President Obama starts delivering results.Oh the hate`n...[:D]  it`ll be endless portions of sour grape sauce drizzled over re-heated crow,....yummmy.

BlackPhx -> RE: $150 million for inauguration (1/22/2009 6:42:13 AM)

Obama didn't bumble it..he Stopped to let Roberts correct himself. A Constitutional Lawyer and I suspect someone who studied to be sure he didn't fumble speaking the Oath of Office he knew the words had been bollixed and was apparently unwilling to take the oath with the WRONG wording.
