        Flash back 4 years, and the talking point of the day was how many armored Humvees you coud buy for the $42 million spent on Bush's second inauguration.  Seems pretty quite on that front as the costs to swear in Barak Obama on Tuesday are expected to better than triple that.

      I wonder how long Obama's honeymoon will last.

How else would you launch a 'superstar' administration. You know how hard it is to create a distraction for the 'mouth gaped' audience while the magician does his 'magic'? That's expensive!

All things considered this is only about a 6.6 on the hypocrisy scale.

As our supply of money has more or less tripled in the past year this doesn't surprise me.

I think it outlandish to spend so much, either in 2005 $ or 2009 $.

It ain't the money, it's the flexible standards of outrage.

        I don't know that I'd go that high.  Nobody misses a 6.6.  This is more in the 4.4, "did you feel something" category.

       I'm a lot more interested in how much honeymoon he'll get with the mainstream press.  The buyer's remorse is going to start kicking in with the public pretty quickly in this economy.

Ok,....

Oh the outrage! The access!

Does anyone have a per capita breakdown? How many folks will be attending and how much per head that`ll come to?

If twice the people are going,then they`re doing more with less and makes the bushies the gluttons.

Think about it.I know I haven`t......

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The cons claim we`re the world`s most generous country in terms of charity.It`s a BS line b/c per capita,we aren`t.Some countryEurope is.But b/c we have more people giving,our total amount is higher.
If a group of three are giving/spending a dollar each and  some other single person is giving/spending three bucks,which is giving/spending more?
Since it such a to-do and such a big deal,I think it`s incumbent of the outraged to research this and get back to us.
Speaking about flexible standards of outrage,Headmaster.
I think 150 mil. covers less than one day in Iraq.
Oh the outrage.......
A few thoughts:
(a) I'm not sure a first inaugural and a second make for an apt comparison. Indeed, I'm not sure what the analogy for Obama's inaugural would be. You have a change of administration, change of party, and a genuinely historic moment (the first African-American President), not to mention a holiday weekend. So record crowds are expected. It might be more accurate, if possible, to look at per capita spending on various inaugurals.
(b) The article notes that the amount earmarked by the federal government is actually $49 million--which, allowing for inflation and the swollen crowds etc., is pretty close to Bush's $42 million. The remaining money would be to help states and transit systems deal with what are expected to be record crowds.
(c) Officials are in a no-win situation. If they spend the money they need to deal with the expected crowds, they're accused of waste. If they don't, and chaos results, they'll be accused of poor planning.
I'm thinking of all the real issues we have to face, and consequently, my concern over the inauguration is:
Zero.
Republican or Democrat or Whigs, let them have their party.
Life will go on. The sun will rise again the next morning. Bullshit politics from every side will continue.
Nothing to worry about.
Real issues?
You mean, like how much heating fuel that money could buy for needy Chicago families?
Issues like that?
No, as a matter of fact I can clearly recall a lot of American politics. Such as the Democrats in Congress who were outraged (OUTRAGED!) because American auto executives had the NERVE to fly to Washington on private jets while seeking taxpayer money...
The nerve of those guys...  !
Is this your first time?
