I only knew that because when I first read The Hobbit, I thought his name must be something exotic and and mysterious....

Oh I know, but we're not verifying a story for the Wall Street Journal here. I'd be interested to see some reputable source one way or the other that is neither Wikipedia or a campfire anecdote.

I think the words of an executive of the company are sufficient, if you really are that concerned about it you can send a letter to the DEA about it and ask if they are still maintaining the practice, and if not when they discontinued, if they say they have let us know.
