Forget about guns. The Brits can all kill each other with second hand cigarette smoke. Alot of people have their health compromised by cigarette smoke. So you guys regulate that for safety of others?

I could be mistaken, but I'm pretty sure a bullet works a little quicker.

Yes it does. But I am glad that where I live I can go into a Bar or restaurant without having an asthma attack or smelling like an ashtray.

Raechard -> RE: britain wants guns back (1/24/2009 10:39:11 AM)

More people gave up smoking the year the ban on smoking in public places was introduced than any other year. Ultimately when the health service is paid for by everyone’s taxes people have a social responsibility to look after themselves and each other. Obviously how much tax comes from tobacco sales is a valid argument but the overall aim of government in this area is to make people quit so what does this say to their shooting themselves in the foot nature in this regard? Just like those that will never believe smoking is harmful others will never believe passive smoking is harmful. It is and people should not be allowed to expose others to it, I mean does the smoke go through a purification process during that two seconds it's in someone’s lungs before being blown out?

Of course I still can't figure out why anyone cares if you have guns over there

I would love to own and carry a gun , especially a nice big shiny one that looks really scary and fires those bullets that explode inside wankers that try to fuck with me,killing them very slowly in excruciating agony , but I'm not sure I could afford enough ammo, theres a LOT of wankers about trying to fuck with people out there.

Mind you there'd be a new market for slaughter paraphernalia . and a lot of unemployed ex Woolworths staff in need of jobs selling stuff on the high street,I could always approach the Princes trust for a loan and go into busines selling killing kit, then there'd be no one left to run the first tribal council of the re-established "Nations Of Crazy Celts" so I'd be in power ! (unless someone shot me of course then you'd get someone as crazy as me but faster and more accurate.......)

Yes I know it sounds hypocritical of ME .... the business of colaborating with the Princes Trust (mind you he speaks fluent Welsh does the "Prince of Wales"....... when he's reading from a phonetic script) , but if they don't hand over the cash , I could always ice the fuckers and steal it ,errrrrr ,I mean "donate it to a worthy cause" (just like Robin Hood really) and besides which its our money any way etc etc

So...... basically thishereboi, amongst other reasons why anyone cares, because they are scared of (amongst other things) mad bastards like me being able to arm and **** *** ******** ! (censored to avoid a treason charge)

Yeah we havent been allowed to smoke in enclosed areas/places of business for a hell of a long time (june/july 2007 in wales)

It's interesting that you should mention this because it affords a comparison with gun ownership.

A lot of people are very, very pissed off with the smoking ban, to the point that some believe that there's a more sinister motive behind the ban. No one cares about guns.

Would you deprive them of that right?
I don't smoke j-bars but if someone else does I support their right to do so!
Freedom is a two-way street.
When it becomes a one-way street with others or,..."the government" making "choices" "for" you that's not freedom.

Right's bloody rights, you know what I want the right to walk down the street without having to think that someone walking past me has a gun in their pocket that when a fight breaks out I wont be hit by a stray bullet. I want the right to feel safe. Who's right is more important? The right for the majority to feel safe or for one or two to have a gun thus meaning we all have to have one?

Im sorry but I find it so so ironic when i hear all this crap about freedom, you are no more free than we are. Honestly you can argue this till the cows come home it simply not going to happed. So its a good job you dont live here

I tell you what not only can we kill each other with second hand cigarette smoke, we can also  poison everyone with diesel fumes, a known carcinogen. You smell diesel fumes, you are breathing it in, I wonder what damage those fumes are causing, I wager more than second hand cigarette smoke is doing, it is just that smokers are an easy target, the new  pariah in society.

lusciouslips19 -> RE: britain wants guns back (1/24/2009 10:55:20 AM)

An African American Comedian you may have heard of- Chris Rock says something so true.
He says guns should be free. But the ammo should cost 5,000 dollars a bullet!

Really, My view on gun control changed due to the fact that my Warden is an avid gun collector. He never shoots at anything but paper targets and he takes ownership very serously and does not keep guns loaded. He keeps them on the side. He is not a trigger happy person. He respects that its a deadly weapon. I appreciate this and he never had these guns when he had a child. He has said that if an intruder came in he would hope that the sound of him cocking the rifle would be enough.

There is a low emissions zone in London where toxic goods vehicles have to pay business destroying fees to enter the capital. It seems they care about this issue.
I'm guessing you smoke.[8|]

On July 1st 2007, England introduced a new law to make virtually all enclosed public places and workplaces in England smokefree. A smokefree England ensures a healthier environment, so everyone can socialise, relax, travel, shop and work free from secondhand smoke.

So the law has been for 18 months or so. Yes it is nice to be able to go to restaurants and bars without coming home smelling of smoke. What the law has done though is to increase the noise from clubs and pubs as patrons that wish to smoke have to go outside. It has also contributed to the decline of the pub trade too.

You mean the dreaded congestion charge? If they cared that much it would be in all industrail cities.

Well, I'm a little confused because we seem to have the same no-smoking bans here?????????????/

I can't speak for everyone but if the guy is as you described then i have no problem with people like him having a gun. It's when they get into the wrong hands i have a problem.
Many who have posted on here and in previous gun threads have said they would have no problem shooting an intruder. I find that quite alarming! Ok you shouldn't be breaking into someones house but to be shot for it, hmm i have a problem with it.
Many incidents of people going crazy with guns (licence holders too) tells me gun laws and checks aren't enough to prove that a  person is suitable to be allowed a gun.
What the answer is i don't know other than banning civilians from carrying gun's. Then you'll have the illegal trading so not really a solution !! [8|]

I'm not specifically talking about the congestion charge although that has a good effect on the situation. There is also emissions charging which charges according to age of HGV forcing those that want to do business in London to invest in new technology.

People in other cities were offered the option recently of congestion charging  but they declined. We voted for a mayor and knew that was one of his main policies, this is the only reason we got it. I think it's a good thing but Boris Johnson the new mayor has pandered to west London residents in failing to extend it.

But regardless of gun laws dont criminals still get guns illegally? There have been many raped and murdered during a home invation. A person should be able to protect themselves.

I personally dont own a gun.

You've committed the sin of calling Boris by his first name only. According to New Labour that is to be avoided because it gives him a sense of endearment in the public consciousness.

Aww but hes so cute like a big puppy dog, im already endeared im afraid
