RCdc -> RE: britain wants guns back (1/23/2009 3:44:10 PM)

I want to see all these people who want to own guns in the UK posting.  Because obviously they must exist... don't they?[&:]

And if you are so moderate compared to the wild wild west…why do you follow our lead all the time?

Hmmmm... No comment at this point: I nearly choked on my salad. Thanks a bunch, Butch.

There are, really? I'd be fascinated to see a survey of these numerous individuals. Perhaps you ought to join Popeye in bringing the good word over to the other side of the Atlantic. It's obvious that the British population is a mistaken lot. No doubt your powers of persuasion will do the trick :-) .

I did not claim it to be a majority. but I suppose I'm odd...I think that even a small minority of individuals should be able to live their lives as they see fit even if the overwhelming majority disagrees.

and I have absolutely no desire to live anywhere in europe (possible exception of switzerland)...to be honest, I have no desire to live anywhere but america. as much as I despise this government, it's better than the alternatives.

that having been said, I will be moving to alberta within a year...which is something I am not looking forward to.

Tony Martin should still be in prison, the idea that he shot those people in self defence is laughable since one of them was shot in the back and they were both fleeing the scene. You won't hear that self defence argument made by anyone with a brain. Or those that know that shooting people running away isn't self defence it's vengeance.

he shot them fleeing the seen? I don't care. if it were me I would've unloaded a super shorty into their backs. why? I'd rather them be dead than risk all the possible permutations of outcomes (one of which being them coming back prepared or them running towards a weapon) no matter how rare those outcomes may be.

Oh so, as long as you have money it's all cool but sod the poor.  How very bourgeois of you.

No, they do not. It's unbelievably funny: Switzerland is possibly the most fascistic country in the western world and people in America keep on quoting it as a paragon of virtue because of its 'liberal' gun laws [:D] .

do I really need to say all enlisted males? is it going to be that necessary?

I also admire switzerland for staying out of the eu. it shows they have some sense.

I'm sorry, but is it bourgeios (what a silly concept) of me to suggest that individuals actually engage in voluntary trade for property as opposed to the alternative (theft)? how radical of me.

They can afford to stay out of the EU because they house the UN and all its assorted organizations and other NGOs: everything has a price. If you want tips on living over there and on dodging the authorities, I'm your woman: you'd love it if you enjoy a feeling of perma-incarceration and of being under a very, very watchful eye.

Just curious.

let's be more accurate. every male has an assault rifle.

It's already been said, but that's simply not true.  Every male in Switzerland does not do military service.  Many do civilian service instead.  It's also not true that the Swiss don't have problems with crime and gun violence.  It's actually been on the increase since the 90's.  The Swiss do have liberal gun laws compared to the rest of Europe, but they don't have exceptionally lower crime rates.

You'll find very few people that are as much of a supporter of the right to bear arms as me.  But you really shouldn't make these false analogies.  I really don't understand the anger over gun laws in another country.  If the British banned lollipops, I wouldn't care.

Why yes DomKen I have met the "common man", they're all around here!
Engineers, Steelworkers, Teachers, Retired Military, (Me) Police and Correction Officers, Business owners, Computer Techs, Retired Arbitrage Bankers, a lady who rides horses in Dolly Parton's wild west show, and that's just in these condos that I live in!
I read that "Sir Winston" would actually tell his "servants" that he was,..."a Great Man."
Seems he had a bit of an ego problem.

I've met them, too. I'd rather not have them make decisions for me. I'd also rather not have 'uncommon' men make my decisions for me. I hope that's not too much to ask.

My man from Alabama....

Where did you learn civics?

We* have chosen to require clothes in public.

We* have made speed limits and other safety rules. No one accept the gov.of NJ is exempt from those rules.

We* have chosen a number of rules and laws protecting us from each other and from the government. We* don`t want those laws tossed.

We* have also chosen to let states regulate guns,cars,business,elections,markets,drugs/booze and goods.

There`s no such place as you describe, accept some parts of Afghanistan and Africa but you do not want to go there.

* as a civil society

Yes extremely bourgeois.  Trade has nothing to do with your statement.  You just said it was great for people to own guns if they want them as long as they can afford them.  What about those that have the 'right' to have them who cannot afford them?  One rule for one and one for another hey?  Lovely.

post 166. I'm aware of how the milita works in switzerland. next time I use it in an example, I will be sure to not assume that others do and will proceed with a ten page expository about their conscripted services.

In fact others have often considered your little part of the world extreme in your limited views of world politics.

There is a subtle difference between you and I, Butch: you care about what people think of the United States; I really do not care what you think of England.

That's just the way it has to be, Butch. You're the chosen people.

The way it works is: you saying you are the good guy and calling him the bad guy doesn't give you the legal right to kill him. That's obvious no? I mean if we lived in your world I could kill you for numerous other unrelated reasons and just claim self defence? You can't circumvent the justice system and if you shoot someone in the back it won't look good for you. No law enforcement officer is going to slap you on the back and say good job for that, I hope.

You belong to the wild west era, wanna go back there?

Okay.  But why are you so pissed off about British gun laws?  Are you mad because you can't pack heat if you decide to visit there?  I'm not trying to be mean, but I don't understand why it bothers any of my fellow Americans.
