ORIGINAL: Vendaval If memory serves correct, Heath Ledger's performance in Dark Knight was gathering high praise during production and before his death. I thought his portrayal of the Joker to be chilling and very believable in a world where we have mass murder trading cards and the like. And Brokeback Moutain is a profoundly poetic movie to me. ......everything everyone has said about the man so far, well the good stuff anyway. The extra element here is in whose feet Ledger trod in the role. Jack Nicholson's Joker in its last incarnation was, in its day, a phenomenal act. As such a really hard act to follow. This wasn't just any remake. What Mr Ledger did in that context was, frankly, remarkable...and as such worthy of an Oscar nomination. Ditto to all this and similar comments. I couldn't care less that he'd died--it didn't affect my assessment of his psychologically terrifying, incredible performance one jot. Well-deserved. As will be his win.
