Vaughner -> Trivia D vs. s Game III (1/23/2009 6:51:52 PM)

As promised it is time for game three of the Dominants versus submissives Random Trivia Challenge.

Herein I shall explain the rules of the game.

I will ask a random Trivia Question on whatever topic enters my mind at the time.

A correct answer will net your team 2 points.  If you manage to prempt the answer, you get a 3-pointer.  Prempting the answer means finding an answer that is technically true, and predates what is commonly recognized as the answer.  For example Rockerfeller was the first person to be called a Billionaire, but there were some Romans who had over a billions pieces of their currency in value.  Naming one of these would be considered a prempting of the answer.

When you post an answer, please list whether you are on the Dominant or submissive side.  If you are a switch you must choose which team will get your points.  There will be no switching teams in this game, so choose carefully.  So far the submissives lead the Dominants 2-0 in these games.

If you wish to dispute an accepted answer, you should post a link specifically refuting the answer.  It is preferred that open source material such as Wikipedia is not used due to its unreliable nature, but it will be considered if it is all you've got.

All players are on the Honor System that they will not cheat by using Google or Wikipedia to research an answer until after the question has been answered or has expired.  All questions will be given an expiration time, and if no answer is given before this time no team will get the points.

Have fun, the first question is in the following post.

What was the name of the United States first Space Shuttle (which never went into space)?

Bonus point if you can tell us why it was given its name.

Two Bonus points if you can tell us what its original name was to be.

Question Expires 10:30PM EST

sub (playing for Doms, I'm an awful suck-up even here)

Vaughner -> RE: Trivia D vs. s Game III (1/23/2009 7:33:56 PM)

Enterprise is correct, and one of the bonus questions is accurate

The ship never went into space as it was built without engines or heat shield for testing its ability to glide.  The plan was to outfit the ship with these sytems after testing had been completed.  However last minute design changes led NASA to conclude it would be cheaper to build another shuttle instead.

While I would not normally allow a sub to give his points to the other team, I did not state it in the rules so it shall be allowed.

(Originally the ship was to be named Constitution, which interestingly in Star Trek the Original Series was the design class to which the fictional vessel belonged.)
