I do not think people worse. I think we notice more because of technology. In past times bad people did not affect a person unless the bad people live near by. Then comes radio and television. Now bad people are reported on news all the time. Good people do not make on news as much. Then internet and now bad people can say many mean things and hide in home in front of computer.

The media does not notice good people much as often. The internet does not give same attention to good people. In this forums the longest threads seem to come from people making drama and making shit (or stirring shit?).

People are not becoming worse. Is instead we notice the worse people more because of technology.

Or maybe, I am just 20 year old girl from far away land and I do not understand shit. <-----shit was one of first English words I learn. Shit and the F word are popular English words in Polish schools. We liked the sound the words did make when used.

I have also noticed that people are getting more into some pretty bad shows these days. Mixed martial arts, Fear Factor, and some others are really getting a lot of viewers these days. I guess we love to watch others get the shit beat outta them!  lol.

I don't.. I don't care for reality TV.. I don't like shows where people are encouraged to be unethical and cut throat.  I don't like shows where people yell at one another... real life is tough enough -- I want to be entertained and taken away from my reality... perhaps that's why I read and only watch dancing with the stars and the simpsons... *shrug*  I don't get the appeal of some of those other shows.

I wouldn't compare Mixed Martial Arts with Fear Factor.  MMA is filled with excellent practicioners of their sport, who spend years training and perfecting their craft to enter one of the most fundamental expressions of human contest and dominance.  Fear Factor is trash which perpetuates that belief that you can do absolutely nothing in America and some how become a millionaire.

The reason, Nikitaa, that all the attention in the news is given to 'bad' people is because Americans have hardly no attention span.  The only way to sell newspapers is to create a sensation.  Look at Rush Limbaugh, and the whole right wing radio phenomenom.  It is easier to get a rise out of people than to talk sense with them. There is plenty of positive news out there though, just not really on the major networks, check out NPR.

Is it my imagination, or are people in general getting more self-serving and thoughtless regarding others? Have you noticed a debasement in simple human decency and tolerance of others? If so, how do we find the passage back to the place we as humans, were before?

Most people I know are thoughtful and helpful.  I think there is a difference in the way people relate to each other which I don't think is necessarily bad.  I grew up in central Texas where there was an odd mix of southern courtesy and western straight-shootin'.   It seems to me while we have lost a little courtesy we have more people saying what they mean.  That may sound a lot less nice but I don't think it's really as big a change when you take into account the backhanded compliments and other disingenuous digs that some people felt they could get away with and stay within the rules.  The point being I don't think people have changed.  Some nasty or nice and everything inbetween.

If you spend a lot of time in forums though you can get a really skewed of the way people interact with each other.  I'm not telling anyone here anything they don't already know.   Because of the anonymity some people go past just saying what they mean and launch into insults and verbal attacks.  Personally, I try to make it a rule to comment on what is being said and not make it something personal about the poster.  It may sound like things are going to hell but the funny thing is some of the things people wrote about each other when the United States was a new country would get them kicked out of this forum tout de suite.

NPR  -- I've gotten more book and music recommendations from NPR than anywhere else...... and PBS ... I love POV, Independent Lens, and Frontline

I think integrity and honesty are shown quite a bit here. I think there is something freeing about being close to others with whom you share and posters often share a lot.

Posters here become close and it really sucks to find posers and fakes. Especially when people are welcoming to begin with...

I wasn't intending to compare the two giovani, merely taking notice of how extreme things are getting these days. I now most of us in this way have always like extremes, but think about it, the drugs are getting more and more extreme, the sports, the coffee's, the drinks, the way people talk to each other, hel, just about any facet of life is getting pushed to the limits.

I hope this clarified my earlier statement a bit.
