Nothing much to add to these, except to emphasize the "nothing is ever their fault" aspect. Everyone screws up now and again, but when you meet someone who insists they don't...

I agree with this. There is no separation of orientation when it comes to assholes and jerks. They exist in all walks of life. Their character defects are similar across the board though they may be expressed in different ways due to their culture, or in our case, orientation.

I try not to associate with assholes BUT the world is full of them. What traits make up a asshole s-type? Well to me it is a sub who demands everything, gives nothing and judges other people's lifestyle. For instance, a sub who believes that all women are weak, lesser beings that should stay home and live only please their man. Yet s/he herself is not pleasing, s/he whines a lot to get their own way and is disrespectful of others who live alternative lifestyles (Femdoms for example).

I have no use for the people that are like my example and you could flip this around to fit the D types too.

A love of money, shoes, cars etc. I wouldn't go as far as saying this would represent arsehole status, but I'd find myself wanting to give her my credit card (if I had one), send her out to the shops...."there you are, love, this one's on me"....and cancel the card as soon as she walked out of my front door.

Not agreeing with everything I say, and refusing to lambast those who disagree with me, would definitely result in arsehole status.

I can relate to name/label/category confusion as I too read the silly things that have been posted on these and other popular forums by "online Doms/subs" with 6 packs next to their computers while their spouse is away. LOL

Imagine if at your next BDSM munch, they held an IQ test and a BDSM aptitude test to screen people out. Membership would shrink significantly. Well, the free forums here at CollarMe do not warrant that type of screening or editors/mods that scan every post for truth or every member for integrity or aptitude. If CollarMe did have such a service, I don’t think we could afford the dues required to have a slue of editor’s and moderators looking over everyone’s shoulder. Further, it would be contrary to the purpose of this web site. CollarMe is free because of the 180,000 new visitors & members each month. We represent a click through and conversion rate to the parent company. To reduce the appeal, to chase off people and screen them out would be financially detrimental.

So, like the population at large, our online BDSM societies are proportionately full of assholes in every role, sub/slave/switch/Dom/me etc. Unfortunately the online pollution from these assholes spills over into the TNG crowd and the BDSM community in general. Now, even wikipedia improperly defines the very roots of our culture by saying BDSM has “D/s” in its meaning (click to see assholism in action). I hope everyone protests the false entry in wikipedia!

The preponderance of false information propagated by free services like the errant entry in wikipedia, the trolls here at CollarMe and all the CastleRealm.com clones, is a byproduct of free online services. You get what you pay for and I hope everyone seeks an understanding of kink and BDSM terms from books they purchase instead of free online forums.

...wow..first time I think I've ever heard someone say that a woman's love of clothing, money and shopping is close to being an asshole....<hides her 50something pairs of shoes and 2 closets full of clothing>

Thank you for your post and expounding on the label confusion. Though I will tell anyone that I am just a novice in Ds, other areas of my life I am not. I do see the influence of on-line gibberish in other areas, so do know what you speak of in this context.

My quest to discover what is an ass hole type is to see if there is any difference from a vanilla relationship vs Ds relationship. As I have mentioned more times then not, I was married 29 years in what would be considered a vanilla relationship. Though looking back, I can tell hubby always had the last say, but yet topics were open for debate. Sir does ask my opinion at times, so he knows where I am coming from, but it is different then what was apart of my marriage. It has occured to me that a s-type who uses whining and demanding attention from their Dom. would be a lot of the ass hole type. Yet, interesting when in discussion with people who do not understand my relationship and how I have to wait until Sir can or is ready to see me, they offer advice that would be subject to me acting like an ass to Sir. Usually these comments come from people who will say where is "SIR:, or how come he doesn't give you a clue to when he is coming and when you will be going to his place? In these incendents some consider Him to be an ass. I simply just tell them, it is how it works best for us. Though this is just one tiny example, there is somewhat of a difference between the Ds lifestyle and Vanilla in regards to how a person acts.

I agree. An ahole is an ahole but if I had to be sub spicific it would be one who tops from the bottom. When I consider a sub if the first things out of their mouth is, Mistress i want You to ***** for me, instead of, Mistress what can i do for You that is the end of it. Being self focused is, to me, the biggest aspect of any ahole.
