YUP

I like D$D, White Wolf WOD, Gurp, Shadow Run, Cathulu, Star Wars, Steve Jackson Games, and Wheel Of Time among many others. I've enjoyed LARP from time to time but find more fun as well as safety in Table Top.

In LARP, you run a risk of dealing with more people that you don't know. Not every scene and action can be watched by a Story Teller. You don't know when some one Out Of Character may snap and be frustrated causing a big scene of Drama and ruin the game for everyone.

In Table Top, you are with three to six of your friends that you've more than likely gamed with before. You can expect how things will go and how much of a challenge you can give everyone.

So talmar, when it comes to RPG are you a munchkin, a gammer, a looney, or a real man?

I'd like to think I am a gamer, but my gaming buddies would probably say i am somewhere between a real man and a looney (In retrospect, maybe trying to knock down that giant with a simple trip rope held between 2 characters wasn't such a good idea.....[;)])

One LARP that I enjoy playing is AMTGARD www.amtgard.com

It's not to bad of a system to play and you actualy get to hit people rather than do paper, rock, scissors.

Like many LARPs you still have politics and drama to deal with but when you need to get away from it, you can just walk back on the field and start fighting again.

My main campaign never converted over to 3rd edition. I guess there is a 3.5 edition now. I agree with you guys...enough already. I actually prefered the first edition which my group modified for our purposes. It worked for us.

The real man...with a bit of a psycho twist when I am running a evil character. I can be cunning when running mages & such but I prefer to run the big mean & nasty fighters. Which of those types do you favor?
I like the Call of Cathulu game...but it is very bloody & generally results in most of the characters dying. It is fun for one time adventure scenarios.

Big nerd here too. AD&D (1st edition ;) )
Catan, strategy board games,
Tabletop mini's games (like warhammer etc.)

And I must admit I am a former cardboard crack addict (Magic: The Addiction).

DEFINATELY the BEST bang for you buck gamewise are games put out by cheapassgames.

My favorite right now is "Give me the Brain" but "Devil Bunny Needs a Ham" and "Unexploded Cow" have there moments too.

And if you are a REAL RPG nerd, (White wolf, D&D) I recommend a frustrating little board game called "Ebola Monkey Hunt"

Given that I am the DM for our group, when I do create a character, i usually try to make it some sort of specialist that fills a very specific niche, and doesn't get in the way of the other players, either that or just for comic relief...in our present campaign, my character is an acrobat...and is the worst tumbler in the party, and spends much of his time scrambling to recover from his tumbles [:D]. It didn't set out that way, it just happened.

Ah yes, Dr. Lucky! Forgot all about him!

Another good game along those lines is "escape from Elba" where you are Napolean ... and so is everyone else in the nice place you are staying.

Three ways to win ....
1) Escape the hospital.
2) Decide that it is peaceful there and you want to stay.
3) Convince the staff that you REALLY ARE the rightful ruler of France, Napolean and they will let you out.

Catan and Munchkin mentioned in the same sentence. I am in love. *sigh*

Most just look at me as if I had just grown a tentacle when I mention those games. History of the World is also great as well as Puerto Rico and Betrayal at the House on the Hill. However, I am never found without a game of Fluxx (for those times when a longer game is not feasible). I also recommend Guillotine, Illuminati, Apples and Oranges, Ninja Burger, Captain Pike, and any Chez game.

Oh, what can I say, "You are playing GAMES??? When, where????"

For RPG's, my fav is Hackmaster. The others I can and will do, just not my fav.

Betrayal is a fun game, as are Munchkin (and super and goth). and the Chez games, and ... wait, I think we're pretty much talking about all Steve Jackson games...

It may just be the Math geek in me, but does anybody else love playing SET?

i play D&D 3rd edition from time to time (after playing AD&D in the waning years of 2e) and am planning on running a Traveller game sometime soon (havent decided if i'll use Classic, GURPS or d20 tho) ~ might also try Spycraft at somepoint (possibly set either in the Megatraveller setting, or Star Wars)

boardgamewise i'm quite fond of Settlers of Catan, Twilight Imperium, Zombies!!!! and J.U.M.P. (tho i dont actually have copies of anything but Zombies at the moment, and havent played the 3rd edition of TI)

its funny, i've seen this topic come up more on BDSM sites than on Lord of the Rings or Star Trek sites..

I played D&D when it first came out. I then got into Squad Leader (a board game based on WW2.) But my true love was a superhero role playing game called Champions. I don't know many who have played it or have heard of it for that matter. If anyone plays it online with a group, please let me know. I would love to get back into it.

I actually enjoy running the game more than playing it. I love the dreaming and schemeing that goes into creating a world, and i often find myself spending inordinate amounts of time and effort on beautiful little details that I know nobody else will ever even know about "Who cares about the flecks in her eyes..I shove my sword into the evil priestess and grab the loot" sigh!
I was once told that this was so because I like being in control....obviously the person who said that has never tried DMing a game..control???? in my experience if there is only 1 small place in a campaign area that is not detailed...that is where the players will automatically gravitate.
There is only 1 way to solve a particular puzzle..think again, your players will each think of at least 2 perfectly workable solutions that never dawned on you. And lets not forget that for every time your character dies, the DM has lost at least 1000 lovingly thought out baddies that you don't even remember beyond "the guy i got that cool dagger from"

I played D&D on and off since about 5th grade. I love the game still, but find it difficult to find a stable group. So, it seems to always drift apart, only to start again a year later. Now, were did I put my character sheet:).

I used to delight in tormenting my old DM that way. I am very unpredictable with my characters.
