This is very common experience. I do sympathize with your hurt and can offer a few pointers that may be helpful to you. #1 Do not invest major emotions into people you have not met in real time. #2 If you arrange a face to face initial meeting, always have a backup plan; seeing a movie, going shopping, etc. And bring something to read. Having a book or magazine with you makes your waiting less obvious to restaurant staff and gives you a distraction. #3 Have a time limit on the waiting. If they do not show up or at least call my cell phone to say they are nearby but got lost and I have to give them more directions within 30 minutes, then it is time to go so something else. #3 Learn to size up people quickly during that initial meeting. Patience, practice and repeated experience will help you differentiate the folks with decent manners from the ones who have none. And if they do show up, remember that fantasy and reality are two very different experiences. A person that seems great Online or during phone conversations can have zero chemistry with you in person. That is not a negative reflection on either party, it just works out that way sometimes and you can still decide to be friends. Regards, Vendaval
