quote: ORIGINAL: spacehippie Ok, not sure how to start this, but I'm gonna try any ways. I read a profile by MistressUni, about how she wanted to start an online group for students who are into or want to be into the scene. Since I myself am one of these students, I was looking forward to hearing more about this. But that hasn’t happened :( So I thought I'd see how many people are interested in such a group, and who would be able to organize it. I'm not the best with computers, so I wouldn’t know how to start a group. But I really would be interested in joining one, and talking to other students and their experiences. Peace out, Spacehippie The idea of an online center is an interesting one. But right now most of the formalized teaching in the scene is centered on face to face interactions at conventions and groups. For example, this February, Jay Wiseman, myself, Jimi and a few others will be giving classes at Sinsations in Leather in Chicago. I think part of the draw of this is you can get a multitude of views not only from the instructors but from the other participants. Online tends to be much more focused on one perspective. I have rarely seen a website where the information consists of disagreements and contradictions, a situation that reflects the scene better than a monolithic viewpoint. Now if someone were to do something like this, I think I would be a great idea. I'll love to do my classes from the comfort of my home rather than spending two days in a flying sewer pipe breathing everyone's virii. I just don't see it happening soon It's not going to happen on a site like collarme.com ever because this is a non-pay site. John expects to be paid for his time, which if you are attending 'school' is fine - pay for your education. This site however offers the exchange of information for free. quote:
I have rarely seen a website where the information consists of disagreements and contradictions, a situation that reflects the scene better than a monolithic viewpoint But if you are paying for one of his classes you are getting a 'monolithic viewpoint'. He is only one man. Even if he is drawing his presentation through mulitple sources, it all goes through one filter (him). Now let's not get me wrong. I've been to seminars, his or otherwise, that I have come away from with some great information. I have nothing against education. I have nothing against being paid to educate. All I am saying is that this web site offers exactly what John is saying "a website where the information consists of disagreements and contradictions, a situation that reflects the scene better than a monolithic viewpoint" Because I have definitely seen that here on collarme.com. Multiple times. Now again, moving right along to the discussion as it progresses: Listen to thetammyjo (at least the post here on the subject at hand :-) on this if you are willing to take action. Play outside of the constraints (i.e. not where you meet) of the system that tolerates you - you get do what you want (hopefully) & (elsewhere); they don't have to shut you down because things go past what is acceptable beyond what they can explain away (or even better, ignore) to who(m)? they answer to. Be prepared to learn a bunch of stuff you didn't want to :-) Welcome to human nature. Remember it's the only club we all belong to. D (owner of j)
