I covered that earlier, I didn't know garlic was in it, in powdered form. So since it's in there  originally, I have no problem with putting it in.

Like I said, it's just when you're going for authentic as possible, and the recipe calls for non authentic things,I don't want

What I don't understand is, you want something to taste like hamburger helper, but you don't want to use the ingredients in the recipes that will make it taste like hamburger helper.  Huh?

How do you think anything is going to taste like something, unless you put in the ingredients that will make it taste that way?

Oh god, I remember as a child my dad raised Turkeys for thanksgiving dinner, and I was to little to know you don't make friends with animals intended for dinner, and my dad didn't really help me learn that lesson. I was totally devastated when it came time to butcher the turkey, and refused to eat any of the turkey that year.

I have in the past solved being lonely by amusing myself with the food, like talking to it for example, while cooking it.

Ah! Now I see why you don't like cooking! You're conflicted about cooking things that you've befriended. It's only natural.

Of course put in the garlic powder, just don't put in the xylenophichydrooxylsteriodalplumbinous extract number 237.

hag! I wish I would of had the meat defrosting last night like I had planned to do, he got sent home at 6 pm, because there was no work for him to do, so the manager said go on home, and we could of had our dinner last night if the meat was ready, today, who knows when he'll be home, could be any minute or it could be not till 9.

~FR~ if you still haven't found a suitable replacement, my mom has a recipe for stroganoff (which is what usual hamburger helper makes I think) that I can ask her about. My brother loves it, and it tastes like hamburger helper to me (though that's not really a compliment, I hate the stuff [:'(]) and it's a lot better for you, especially since you can keep an eye on your ingredients. She usually goes heavy on the garlic (both minced and powder) but that's 'cause he and my dad are garlic fiends. Hit me up on the other side if you'd like me to ask.

Just the other day I was looking at the Hamburger Helper display at the store. I was amazed at how big it was and I wondered if people really bought that stuff. I think it's about on the same level as dog food. Guess this thread is proof though that there are actually people who eat it. Who'da thunk???

cjan -> RE: How do I mimic boxed hamburger helper, from scratch? (1/30/2009 10:35:25 AM)

You can boil some noodles, add ketchup, garlic salt and any other dried spices or herbs ( never fresh ) and, finally, the meat of your choice. For a really authentic taste, try chopping a box ( any box, it doesn't have to be Hamburger Helper ) and adding it to the dish as it simmers...adds fiber too. Yummy.

Tuna noodle casserole using a box of mac n cheese, a can if tuna, peas and bread crumbs is pretty yummy too! I know crazy, the chick that likes rack of lamb, fois gras and champagne gets down with casseroles!

When I first arrived in America I could not believe how wide selection was in grocery store for everything. There was entire isle of just bathroom tissue. Why is this necessary? There is two type of bathroom tissue. One-ply for cheap people and for dabbing make-up and two-ply for "stuff."

Now I see 5 pages of talk about simple hamburger helper. Hamburger Helper is not kinky. I know this talk is really secret code for plot to take over collarme. You are the "hamburger helper gang" and you are being watched. 0---0
