Wouldn't you prefer that they have access to sanitation and basic health care?

Everybody in US has access to health care.  You just have to pay for it.  We are talking about free health care. So the question asked should be: Are you willing to pay for illegal immigrants health care?  The other option could be to introduce a special tax that will be used exclusively to cover illegal immigrant health care. I wonder what would be the chances to pass this legislation through the Congress? Maybe the companies using illegal labor should do something about health issue. Perhaps not, it is supposed to be cheap labor after all.

Vendaval -> RE: Obama's first broken Promise (2/7/2009 10:11:46 PM)

Are you saying that the companies that hire migrant workers should pay a special tax to cover the cost of their worker's health care?

BamaD -> RE: Obama's first broken Promise (2/7/2009 10:15:02 PM)

No that is a basic form of small c communisim not to be confused with the political party.

No, I thought every American should pay a special tax to cover everybody who can not afford health care including illegals. Otherwise, it is not clear how it is paid and how much it costs. As I understand it is Obama plan anyway. Companies do not hire illegals (officially).

aravain -> RE: Obama's first broken Promise (2/7/2009 10:25:01 PM)

not all migrants are illegal aliens, I think was the point, and a good many aren't citizens either.

EDIT: But still legal. As an US national in England or any other country I don't have health insurance... but in most/many I can still receive health-care for free (in emergency situations), or at least severely cheap comparable to the US at uninsured rates.

Owner59 -> RE: Obama's first broken Promise (2/7/2009 10:44:14 PM)

Unless we`re going to leave the sick/injured/infirmed by the roadside to languish and suffer, anyone who needs medical help will get treated. That`s the way it is.

This is what we`ve chosen as part of living in a civilized,1st world level of decency.

That cost must be borne somehow and it`s usually individual states that pick up those extra costs that hospitals and clinics incur.

Unless you`re going to throw people out into the cold, they have to be taken care of.Call it what you want, but it`s all semantics and hyperbole to call it communism.

If that`s the case, then we already have communism(unless of course,we reject communism and toss the non-insured and indigent patients out)  now.

MasterShake69 -> RE: Obama's first broken Promise (2/7/2009 11:14:44 PM)

You may notice during the past 2 decades the increase problems in the US health care system.  While during the same time period, a corresponding dramatic increase in illegal aliens entering the US occured.
In no way, one has anything to do with the other. [8|]

The bill also allows for immigrants, both legal and illegal, to access SCHIP funds, although illegal immigrants may only do so for 90 days.

The bill removes previous requirements, currently required under Medicaid, that mandate new enrollees provide photo identification and documentation proving citizenship, such as a green card or passport, when applying for SCHIP.

The new language strips this proposal and says that states can accept Social Security numbers as proof of citizenship, and that they must provide health coverage while those numbers are being verified. If a number cannot be verified, states must drop coverage after 90 days.

Cybercast news Service... who the fuck are they? Why don't you just go to Joe the Plumber for your insightful analysis?

Everybody in the US has access to a lear jet. You just have to pay for it. Everyone in the US has access to a 6000 sq. ft. Mcmansion. You just have to pay for it.

Who is talking about free health care? Maybe you are; I'm not.

Who is talking about giving illegals free health care? maybe CNS and some other radical right scare sites are; I'm not.

Snore.... non-issue.

Um, socialism isn't necessarily bad. Just like capitalism isn't necessarily bad.

Either taken to an extreme? Sure.

Believing that either is something to avoid at all costs? Silly.

Thank you for saying that. What with all the GOP rhetoric flying around bemoaning anything that looks even close to socialism, the fact that either system (socialism or capitalism) taken to an extreme is dangerous tends to be tucked under the carpet. As with success in most things, it is a matter of balance.

Excuse me, capitalism is nothing more than individual freedom. So your arguing against people having too much freedom. I mean really, build a time machine and teleport yourself back to 1941 Germany and make sure you get circumcised first if you aren't already. I'm sure you'll find that time and place interesting. No need to worry about the government there giving you too much freedom.

Some of us would prefer to provide for our families, not have 30-70 percent of our income taken by the federal, state and local government to support illegals and all the other programs liberal would-be-tyrants think are good for us. If you think illegal immigrants should get health care, feel free to drop by your local home depot, taxi them to a doctor and pay their bills out of your own pocket instead of insisting the federal government hold a gun to my head to make me pay for what *you* think is a good idea and that *you* think *other* people should pay for.

Capitalism isn't a "system" It's freedom. Socialism, communism, fascism are leftist political systems that reduce individuals to the property of the state. And btw, what's going on in this country right now isn't "socialism" it's technically fascism. I really wish you liberal, elitist, blowhards would understand the terms you use. As the Democratic party understands the first step to enslaving a free society isn't socialism it's fascism. Of course, you probably think fascism has something to do with the right.

The fascism is a product of the right propaganda was created specifically so useful idiots would beg for a "middle ground" instead of either "extreme". The Capitalist Extreme is a free society, by insisting on anything less you're insisting that you and your fellow man be enslaved by their government. Free your freaking mind.

As an aside...guess who is going to pay for this program supposedly to help poor children...their poor parents who smoke.

I believe the people who smoke already siphon off enough health care dollars from the non-smokers, and insurance-wise that non-smokers already pay a premium to cover the costs of smokers, so this doesnt bother me.

Good point...I think we should also, for example,

Add $0.50 health tax on every BigMac and other fast food that is not healthy for kids who are too obease these days.
Add $0.10 a can on every canned product that has more than 600mg of salt
Add $0.08 on every bottle of coke and other sugar laded unhealthy beverages.
Add $0.20 a pound on high fat content beef.
Charge everyone who tips the scale at more than a 15% above a government determined height/weight approved level an annual "carbon footprint tax" of $1.00 a pound.
The possibilities are endless...

I think we have discovered how we can find ways to fund healthcare in this country when universal healthcare is forced on us by this Administration.

The trouble is, your government (both political sides) is working to make sure you can't provide for your family, by deliberately opening the floodgates of cheap labor to take your job away, and they are also working to assure that the cheap labor is ahead of you in line at the Dr's office, because they are more important to the economy than some unemployed louse. One side is doing it for votes, the other side is doing it for the business lobby and feeding the rich via the markets.

Or, how about this....

We charge a premium for all homeowners whose house size is greater than 2,000 sq ft, as these homes are using more electrictiy and gas than a smaller house does, and said utilities are essentially being subsidized by the small house owner. May as well go after the builders of large house developments, too, as they are creating the problem.

Or...

How about installing passive electronic devices in cars (similar to the AEI equipment used in the rail industry http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Automatic_Equipment_Identification ) that contain data on its MPG, so when a car pulls up to a computerized gas pump, the pump reads the passive device and alters the price of a gallon of gas, charging a per gallon premium for cars with lower MPG standards, so the guy who drives the economy car doesnt subsidize the guy who drives the gas hog.

:)

Just a minor correction might be considered for your post.  The Bill does not penalize people based on country of origin since many in the United States are here "legally" from other countries have visas or have become citizens..  What this Bill does is open up the doors to children of the as many as 20,000,000 illegals in our country and puts the burden for their healthcare on the already straining American taxpayer. Who do you think pays for this..Pelosi?  Add in this "Spending Bill" now before Congress with all of its welfare payments and the tax bill  for all of us will be going up over the next few years,no doubt about it.
As an aside...guess who is going to pay for this program supposedly to help poor children...their poor parents who smoke.  Contrary to his campaign promise not to raise taxes on the poor the $30 billion plus SChip program is being funded by as much as a $1.00 increase in tobacco taxes. Maybe $0.60 or $1.00 increase in a pack of cigarettes might not be too bothersome to one of those bankers limited to $500,000 income...but that working guy who makes $25-$50,000 a year sure as hell will feel it, albeit  I'm sure will feel even more patriotic paying this tax per the command of the Vice-President.
It seems to me we have turned over control of our lives to 536 people who either don't have a clue as to the risks we are facing these days or welcome the turmoil as an "opportunity" to "change" America into their dream socialist state.

So, you think that kids should be denied healthcare access because their parents chose to immigrate to another country?

Now I know how to interpret every post you make from now on. Thanks for that.

Edited to add- Also, if you have an issue with increasing tabacco tax to pay for healthcare, no one is asking you to smoke :)

I have no problem with people who immigrate here legally. It is the ones who are here illegally who I don't want to support. You do understand the difference right? But if you insist, maybe we can ship them up to Canada for healthcare. I am sure you wouldn't have a problem taking care of their health costs.

my problem is not with them, but with how our country puts them ahead of their own citizens and gives them hand outs and doesnt even ask them to try to learn the language here.. have you seen the dshs application, there are over a dozen different languages on there translated for every different culture..

Just my not so humble opinion

To be honest, I don't understand why Spanish class isn't mandatory in the US. Every mexican person I've ever met, up here and in the states has known at least very basic English. All of my friends from Mexico had to take English class in high school. I've met maybe 5 Americans that could do the same in Spanish, or French, or any other language. I don't understand why providing services in other languages is such a huge issue to Americans, people and countries should be encouraged to be multi-lingual.

Is spanish mandatory in Canada? How many languages can you speak?

How much money goes to health care from the tobacco taxes?  How much of that is contributed by non-smokers....that's right $0

Maybe the non-smokers aren't really covering the other costs, maybe they just like to bitch about it.
