Valentine's is depressing.  Several of my Worst break ups have happened on Valentine's day.  Yes, that's right - I had a slew of ex's that specifically waited until valentine's day - the "official day of Romance" to do things like... oh... take me to dinner, and publically dump me while there by having my replacement join us half way though - and it was planned that way.  That one almost turned into another Valentine's Day Masacre - Oklahoma Style.

I am just watching 'Countryfile' here and they are rattling on about 'ethical Valentines day', in that you must buy either fairtrade goods or organic to lessen the impact on the planet, I got a better angle on all 'ethical' crap, don't get suckered into buying anything.

I know what you mean about the being single bit, I used to fret about it for years of being single, but it is not so fab when you do have someone, and now I am single again, I am loving it, but this time, the next love to break through my armour, and there will be someone, will have to be a very special person indeed, I do not give in easily, I did'nt last time, but I gave in eventually, lessons learned it will be harder next time.

Single status has it's advantages and distinct disadvantages, the key is to make the most of what you have, whilst you have it and enjoy yourself despite external influences.

Oh most of my post was tounge in cheek hun, I am far happeir when I am single.

But I do think valentines day is fine, sweet really, yeah sure it is commercial but having a day set aside simply for love? Its a lot better than the rest of the year being about hatred anger and politics

It's Just a Day.

sambamanslilgirl -> RE: Valentine's Day Haters Unite! (2/8/2009 4:41:10 AM)

so Valentine's Day is the only day you show your love?

what about other 364 days?

i don't need a Hallmark holiday to show Daddy how much i love and appreciate Him.  i do that every single day ...and i don't have to spend a dime either.

There is nothing wrong about being given a box of chocolates. Except if they're all filled with creme, that's wrong.

KMsAngel -> RE: Valentine's Day Haters Unite! (2/8/2009 6:10:12 AM)

hey. i'm easy. i'd be happy with a kiss this year. just a kiss.

maybe a little tongue. groping would be good - sweet groping though. and fondling, i'd definitely be up for fondling.

Rhi.,honey, you've , obviously, been hanging witha slew of assholes. If I was on the jury, though, I would acquit you for an Oklahoma style VD day massacre under such circumstances.

My hubbys birthday is on valentines day, guess which wins out :) He is romantic at other times tho.
My youngest sons birthday is on the 13th and mine is on the 23rd, so its usually a hectic time anyway so I dont really miss it (welll maybe occasionally)
Before I married I hated it with a passion.

I grew up in a socially backward country that didn't celebrate Valentines day or Holloween either. And it hasn't stunted my social growth at all.

Therefore - i consider Valentines to be a commercial venture designed to make money for companies who employed marketing genius's whose sole purpose was to make more money for said company.

I feel the same way about Halloween - ritualized begging instruction for children.

I guess in the States, i am in the bah hum bug bunch. [:D]

I think valentines day is stupid. I thought so when I was 5 and introduced to it in school and I still think so now at age 46.

Although, if I knew it was about the slaying of a catholic priest.............

No shit.  The day suddenly has meaning and some teeth...To bad we allowed it to get watered down into the drab and dreary day that it is today.

Can you imagine the excitement if every Feb 14th the worst of the Priests were rounded up beaten and beheaded?  The devout the disenfranchised and the molested would line up with for miles with clubs in hand.  Bigger tourist attraction then the "Running of the bulls or the Super Bowl."

Sangria would be drank as the Priestly heads, entrails and organs were gleefully being tossed about.

God, I love Valentines Day.

LaTigresse -> RE: Valentine's Day Haters Unite! (2/8/2009 12:22:58 PM)

All those blood red roses would have new meaning.

Naberius -> RE: Valentine's Day Haters Unite! (2/8/2009 12:25:39 PM)

I dislike any and all holidays and always have. Never seen a need to express love on a given day when you should be doing that every day. As to other holidays, bunch of hoopla in a half. So you're not a lone in the hating department of this particular holiday.

chiaThePet -> RE: Valentine's Day Haters Unite! (2/8/2009 1:14:42 PM)

It just hasn't been the same since the 'Cupid Incident of 1984', where by accident, I shot my now ex-wife in
the head with an arrow whilst dressed in a diaper and painted hot pink during some ceiling suspension play.

On the brighter side, now I can see right through her.
