I mean, you can't possibly understand a character without spending significant time with that person. No amount of promising the earth and a life of harmonious co-existence should detract from that. I don't have the answers on what leads people to be easily duped because I can't speak from experience; regardless, I'm going to pontificate on cultural matters relating to the United States, a country that I've never visited I'll add, because I can't help myself. So, here we go: My impression of this board is that 'hope springs eternal'. I mean, you have the American Dream and all that, and then there's the high value placed on religion, which I think can lead to a climate of naievty. Then there's American films where everything turns out for the best in the end, in contrast to English films where everyone dies including the dog. Throw in that you seem to be quite an optimistic bunch, and you have a recipe for being taken in by every passing con-man in an expensive suit. Now, I know there's such a thing as rule and exception, and I know there's no substitute for experience; this is no more than an observation based on my time here.

maybe i shouldnt admit this in public but i am an idiot. i will believe almost anything anybody tells me. i think what is the use of be fake or phony so i assume others are the same way. i dont really like that i am so gullable but i havent taken the time to change.

If someone seems interesting I will allow my judgement to be formed, over a period of time, by witnessing consistent and sane behavior patterns. My little voice always says: this is the big bad interent(s), anyone can be anything, and what a fool believes.

I think there are a lot of people that believe what they say in their profiles. For some of them it is an exercise of cynicism and for other a revenue stream. For some it is a first attempt at self expression in a new medium (kink) and for others it is a soap box for whatever their hobby horse might be. When i read profiles, i pay attention to the words, but also the words between the words, the context of the words (age, sex, location dont laugh those do tell you something about the person) and the way the words fit together to cover over what they don't want to say but can't really hide. But then, sometimes i just look at the pictures and make up my own stories about who they are and what they want. It's a fun game; try changing "Dom" to "rich husband" or "surrogate parent" or "in my daydream" or (my favorite) "turnip".

Any message with an e-mail address I ignore. I hope I didn't ignore any real people but I always find that suspect. Especially when they spell hotmail and yahoo hutymail dat c0m and yeahwhoo dat cum. or hot.m.a.l dat cum WTF??? I have never seen anyone spell either this way before joining this site.

I found prolific posters not only gave you a better glimpse of the real person, but the persona they gave off in posting tended to coincide with what was in their profile. It was from her posts, and not her profile, that I found Deanna, and I found the Deanna who posted was the same Deanna in the profile, and the same Deanna in real life. Perhaps a backwards process, but for those who are looking for relationships, I think a much better one than just searching and reading profiles of people who basically sit there and wait for the world to come to them. Profiles of people who often post tended to represent who they are, as opposed to what they fantasize of being.
