Ah, semantics. Words are used to paint a picture, to convey thoughts and feelings. The people whom I have been the closest to were gifts, and curses, and blessings, and miraculous. Yet, in a literal sense, none of these things. To say someone's submission is a gift is not a literal description of the dynamic, but rather an expression of how it makes you feel.

this slave believes it to be wholly subjective.  it could be any number of things depending on the perspective of the individual's experience.

considering all of this slave's experiences, submission has been:
a blessing
a curse
a gift
a knee-jerk reaction
something this slave was trained to do as a wee one
the "wrong" thing to do, at the time
a choice she made within the context of an intimate relationship at age 36
a source of pain and anguish
the "right" thing to do, at the time
a source of fulfillment and ecstasy
a way to comfortably and genuinely relate to others
etc.

beth,

Well the above may be true, but with a simple yes or no it gets easier!

CP,

since your OP wan't presented as a poll, with only a "yes" or "no" option, this slave assumed other comments on the "submission is a gift" thing might be welcome.

please accept this slave's apologies for responding.

I have not , as yet, read all the pages on this subject but I still wish to give my opinion on the subject at hand.
Submission is not a gift.  It is freely given, but saying it is a gift sounds, to me, like a person expects some sort of gift in return. You should feel in your heart and soul that you want to give someone your submission not be so egotistical (remember this is my opinion and feelings)  as to think it is the best thing ever given to the person (even if you might think it is :)  ). It should be a gut feeling that you really really need to do.

My opinion is, if the recipient views it as a gift, then it is.

chymes,

ok what if the receiver does not consider it to be a gift, but takes it anyway??

It's not a gift. It's an inspiration.
