Okay I only saw the end of President Obama's speech tonight.
I am currently listening to the speech now on CSPAN, see link below.
I just heard a Republican say that if President Obama had stated he
would cut some of the pork, his bill would have passed in a few days.

Personally, I think cutting some of the "pork" would not be a bad idea.
Instead of just stating why you are for or against the stimulus package, why
not state what parts you like or dislike?

So far for me, the parts I like the most are: Fixing our crumbling infrastructure,

job creation {4 million}supposedly, extending unemployment benefits and medical coverage,
tax relief to middle class, money to states $$$$$.

President Obama said every American can go online and see how we are spending every dollar!

CSpan has coverage of the speech for those that want to hear it.

I totally disagree with the direction Obama is taking the country.  However, I think he did a good job at the Press Conference selling his side.  Unfortunately  not too much meat in his arguements.

Now just what direction would that be corysub ? IF, you can even describe it as something significant or even minor...let us know, I am curious.

I think some of his rhetoric is a bit over the top, Mia, but it was very refreshing to see real responses in a press conference.

Rich, isn't that one of the reasons President Obama was elected?
His dynamic personality helped get him elected, would you expect any less?

He seemed to handle the Biden question well. Essentially said, "I have no idea what that god damned fool keeps mumbling about."

I didn't mean his oratorical skills, Mia.  I mean the doom and gloom and "never" pulling out of the recession unless we pass his package.

There is no clear direction at this point. US is sliding downhill, Obama thinks his policies can hold it back a little. He may just dig himself a debt hole and be gone four years from now.

well, lol
A healthy dose of gloom and doom is okay!

He should have said we are in a DEPRESSION and it will be worse and last 20 years,

without the stimulus package!

What if the government did nothing?
What about the millions that just lost their jobs?
What happens to these millions when their unemployment runs out in a couple of months?
I mean should they all end up on the streets?

What did he do ? Did he offend your sensibilities ? Get a grip, we are now assessing the 'feeling' and the optimism of a pres. ? Do we not want the truth ?

Come on, I am progeny of those that went through it. 7 families living in one row house. Grandparents that lost $30,000 and 4 houses. No men around at all. Why ? They were looking for work, anything...anything at all, all day everyday, all night, every night.

For what we are going through I don't much care about political rhetorical talents, I will not parse the gospels of economic idealogy. We have 150 million workers and their children to pay a massive debt...all on behalf of the bankers.

So as long as they are satisfied...Obama could do the fucking jig or spout Freidman for all I care, nothing else matters.

Government doesn't create jobs, government taxes those who do.

Do you know what it means to tax something?

Here's a hint - taxing something doesn't help it. The best thing the government could do is get out of the way.

I have no idea whether his plan will work.  I hate the idea of bailing out failing businesses or institutions.
There is no doubt he is in over his head.  Who wouldn't be? To suggest that you are 100% sure of what needs to be done is simply a ridiculous notion.

We need dollars pumped into education as well as our infrastructure.  The health industry is in shambles.

There are people that have chimed in that could care less about President Obama, their only capability lies in once determining that he is on the other side of the aisle they will simply object without possessing specific knowledge to any of his ideas.

It was good to see a man acknowledge the men and women who serve in a thoughtful and introspective manner. He showed depth.

I wish him and all Americans well during this rough stretch.

They can't handle the truth!
What did Bush say in August/September?
The economy is just fine!
