A sub of mine did that once (not by play, diverticulitis) and they took a gallon of pus out of his intestinal cavity when they did the emergency surgery. He wore a colostomy bag for most of two years before things were healed up enough to allow repair surgery. The surgeon who treated him was, fortunately, blunt enough with him about his choices, once the emergency X-rays came in: "Well, you can have surgery now, or we can bury you in two days."
