It was introduced too recently to be "languishing" IMO. That said, news is spreading of it even now, which is a good thing. I'm hearing AZ, OK, MT, and WA has similar bills on the table. Hopefully this will lead to a *true* progressive movement.

I heard 17 different states had them.

I love New Hampshire!

"Live Free or Die"

This always gets me thinking of a bunch of New Hamshireans staring at a tourist. Then one walks up to the tourist and stabs him in the chest. And as the guy falls to the ground he yells at him "We said Live Free, Or".

This was settled over 140 years ago. States do not dictate anything to the US government. States are simply convenient subdivisions of the United States not independent constituents of a voluntary federation.

Tell that to Texas. If the Texas legislation votes to secede. They secede. Don't think the feds can do anything to stop it.

And New Hampshire is taking a rightful stand for their rights as a state.

Something I expect more states will be doing to follow their example.

They aren't dictating things to the US Government. They're saying they expect the US Government to uphold what the Constitution has already dictated to it.

I think the Federal Government needs reminded of this from time to time.
You say "rightful" I say "wrongful". The various and sundry morons who make up the preponderance of state legislatures need to be reminded from time to time that pi =/= 3.  See Robert Heinlein, "Stranger in a Strange Land".

The feds will simply arrest the traitors and move on. This was thoroughly settled in 1865.

They could try.

Allow me to throw a little cold water on this whole celebration.

First as I understand this, it is a resolution the passing of which of course...has no force of law.

Second, if this were law or an amendment...how long do you think our current SPOUS would allow it to stand ?

"I think the 10th amendment of the US constitution (from which we derive and maintain our states rights) is the most 'dead-letter' amendment of the constitution.' During his confirmation hearings the great 'conservative' SC nominee Robert Bork. Not surprisingly but for other reasons, he was not appointed

Had I been on the committee I would have had to interject and ask him if there were any other amendments to the US constitution...that were also...'dead-letter' amendments ?

You actually think it's wrongful to demand the Federal Government to uphold our Constitutional Rights, and the Constitutional Rights of the States? Wow.

If you don't want to live in the US the borders are open right now.

BTW advocating secession is sedition and is a crime.

"Freedom of speech in the United States is guaranteed by the First Amendment to the United States Constitution, which states in part: "Congress shall make no law... abridging the freedom of speech, or the press." The United States Supreme Court upheld the Sedition Act at the time it was in effect in Debs v. United States, but subsequent Supreme Court decisions (such as Brandenburg v. Ohio in 1969) make it unlikely that a similar law would be considered constitutional today. "

The " South" tried to secede when Lincoln was president. It didn't work out to well for them or the Country. This is a waste of time. They should consintrate on bringing badly needed jobs to the area instead..

Is this why Palin appealed to so many<cough>"patriots"?

Succession?

Is "succession", the new code word for the extreme eliments of the nation to rally around?

Define "on the table".Is this another "resolution" ,like NH?lol

And if your so anxious to live in a state not part of the United States Of America, why don`t you leave now?

There are obviously plenty of other options or alternative places to live.

I`m hearing cheney might be moving to Dubai, when Haliburton moves it`s corporate headquarters there.

They might have ya(but you`re going to have to learn to speak Arabian)    Allahu akbar...

It'd be much preferable to keep the Federal Government in it's place and stay here; which was the point.

Not suprised that you'd try and strawman that into me wanting to leave though.

Might wanna check Yates vs the Unites States.  You'd have to do a lot more than say "I'd move to Texas if they secede" for it to be a crime.

I'm from South Carolina and we tried something similar back in the 1860s. We were by FAR the wealthiest state in the Union when we fired on Ft Sumter. since then, we are near the bottom of the 50 states in everything good and close to the top in everything bad. Now, there is no doubt we were easily within our constitutional rights to seceed; but Mr Lincoln didn't see it that way. We handed the yankees their asses for 3 years, but finally their far larger population and their vastly greater industrial production and development won out.

Bottom line-good luck; you're gonna need it.

Just a small thing I noticed.  All of those now saying "If you don't like the US, the borders are open to leave" got very angry when the other side said the same thing only a year ago.  Its amazing how some people sound just like those they condemned a year ago.  "Change" should mean more than switching places.
