How many children can be fed with $30 million. How many "shelters and food banks" can be helped with $30 million?  How many bills for drugs for seniors eating dog food to pay medical bills can be bought for $30 million?  Yet the stench of another "non-pork" thingy is exposed to the public with Pelosi  directing $30 million to her district to protect the "marsh mouse".  Somehow, I have a feeling that there will always be a marsh mouse, thank the Lord.   I guess if any spending is not specifically aimed at helping pigs..other than the two legged kind in the democrat party these days, it's not pork!  But hey, even if it was, according to Senator Schumer Americans don't care about trivial little porkie things.  Senator, maybe we all looked the other way while you politicians were wasting the public treasury when things were good, but with most of America in severe pain I think we really care about the billions being wasted in this bill.

This Bill will pass and bcome law. This Bill will pass and waste hundreds of bilions of our money but, more importantly, will create programs that will live on beyond stimulus and cost trillions of dollars over the years.

Yesterday Barney Frank, one of the instigators of todays sub-prime problems beat up on the leaders of eight of the most important financial institutions in the country.  His associates continued the class warfare with idiot questions like...raise your hand if you have ATM's...raise your hand if you have credit cards raise your hands if you sent out letters since receiving TARP funds raising interest rates on credit cards...and on and on.  In no way will I defend the greed and casting aside of all risk management by these bankers, however, here we have .the most powerful political figures in our country..the leaders and protectors of our future, among the framers of the farce of a stimulus package, and all they showed was just how much destruction is ahead of us in our culture, our way of life and our economy.  Passage of this Bill today, the second day in our nations history that will live in infamy, marks the beginning of the end of America as I knew it and the "change" towards a socialist style Big Government, Big Brother is taking care of your livesw. It also is an "infrastrucure Bill' in that itpaves the highway leading towards hyper inflation, a stagnant economy and depression.
This is not a time for neocons like me to gloat this is a time to pray.  In medicine those most frightening words from a doctor are..."I'm sorry, his condition is terminal".  I'm sorry for all of us...hard working democrats, republicans, libertariens, independents, whatever..we are all in the stew and there is NO exit from this disaster being created by a President who is a man unproven in capability other than command of the english language, surrounded by  agenda drive's n liberals and "greenies" who think the well of money is bottomless. "Save the Marsh Mouse" may only be a small porkie thing as the idiot Schumer said...but it is THE metaphore for the lack of "change" promised and betrayed to so many.  It's politics as usual for the democrat party...and the "change" promised is a promise denied!  Shame on them!

The fact that republicans will sweep in two years is little comfort since they will inherit a country torn apart by high interest rates, money wasted on windmills

The major problem right now with our economy is fear.

Hey guys, let's not forget. Democrats *rarely* do anything provocative that they don't accuse the opposition of doing first. They telegraphed the current power grab the moment they started accusing Bush of violating civil rights after 9/11.

Remember one of the favourite things they liked to harp on was supposedly universal domestic wiretaps. It's coming. Take care what you say about fatherly leader over the phone or Internet.

Irrelevant, E2Sweet.  Do the errors of the past excuse continued erroring?

There is no real excuse for a lot of what goes on in Washington these days. But it is completely relevant when you have folks here clamoring over misappropriated taxpayer funds and yet the party they support is responsible for a one to three trillion dollar blunder leading up directly to a time when our economy is on the verge of collapse.

Iraq is a bit more than an error... and at best 33,333 times more costly than the issue raised here (if my math is correct of course). So shouldn't the OP be 33,333 times more furious at the last administration for that mind-boggling train wreck?

It seems a lot of folks around here are OK to excuse 'erroring' when the errors are perpetrated by the folks from the party they support, regardless of which side. It is what it is.

Get a grip...this is nit-picking. $30 million is a rounding error for even a single year of the 6 years and almost $20 Trillion spent by the repubs 00-06. (such hypocritical sour grapes) Haliburton was just fined almost $600 million for their scummery. That'll help.

Where was all of this parsing of Bushes spending bills and a ocean liner full of pork ? The bridge to knowhere was 10 times that alone...wasn't built but Alaska found somewhere to use that booty. (Alaska alone...almost $1 Billion this year in pork, a going away present for Ted)

Hell, the farmers now get $20 billion...EVERY year thanx to those big govt. deficit spending 'fiscal conservatives' that are now out on their ear.

Three trillion?  I don’t think so.  But in a few days congress would have spent more then 8 years of war in Iraq and Afghanistan.

There is truth in what you say.
When a party stays in control to long they lose there way.
The republicans became almost as bad as the democrats.
They just spent a little less money.

I seem to recall, and your memory might be shorter, that W came into office with the economy in good shape and budget surpluses to the tune of a trillion dollars. He ( and the Rebublicans ) squandered the surplus in the first year and racked up the huge deficits we have now. By your reckoning, how does this add up to the Reps spending a little less money ?

No, that is still a Tu Quoque .   The failures (however large) of the past administration don't excuse the failures of the current one.

The "left" was concerned about what they perceived as Bush's "sins" and was vigilant in trying to have them addressed.  The "right" has the same privilege in being concerned about Obama's "sins" as they perceive them.  And while some may feel that Bush's were "felonies" that doesn't mean that they shouldn't be concerned about Obama's "misdemeanors."  Both are "crimes" that need to be addressed.  It is just the court of public opinion instead of a court of law.  At least, at this time, for BOTH of them.

If anything, it is important to catch these things at the beginning of the administration so that we DON'T repeat the errors that occurred in the previous one.  Vigilance is a civic duty, in my opinion.

NB:  I am not on the "other side" ... I'm libertarian/boston tea party  (Party like it's 1773!)

I'm the "other, other side."
