I guess since Obama is a Democrat and they never lie it will be called Non Truth or a mistake. Maybe Obama would blame a lack of sleep causing the mistake. Just like Obama did all during his campaign when he made George W bush style errors.

FROM ASSOCIATED PRESS SPRINGFIELD, Va. — President Barack Obama, campaigning to cast his economic plan in terms of real jobs and families, said Wednesday that machinery giant Caterpillar Inc. plans to rehire some of its laid-off workers if Congress approves a sweeping stimulus bill. Obama’s mention of Caterpillar also came just one day before he was heading to Peoria, Ill., to visit the company’s workers and keep pushing his plan. The heavy-equipment maker has announced more than 20,000 job cuts, as shrinking credit and construction demands hurt orders for tractors and other machines. Said Obama: “Today, the chairman and CEO of Caterpillar said that if the American Recovery and Reinvestment Plan passes, his company would be able to rehire some of those employees.” He did not specify to whom the company chairman and CEO, Jim Owens, made such a pledge.

Yea...Jim Dugan lied to the President..we all believe that one..

Barack loves to bring up Abraham Lincoln and is trying hard to sell himself as the second coming if not of the Messiah, old Abe.
After one of the best selling campaigns in American history, Obama obviously belives his velvety tones and ability to touch a cord with some of the disenchanted is a superpower like the "transformers" that kids play with and allow him to sell anything and everything. .  The problem is that the campaign is over and the first time in his life he actually has a job as an intern in the Oval Office.
He really should study Lincoln since he loves old Abe so much. He would have learned from the great one who said the following:

"You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can not fool all of the people all of the time. "

Certainly Obama should have listend to George Bush who probably repeated what he once said as he was turning over the keys to the White House to Barack and Michelle:

The other guy is going to carefully chosen venues, towns and cities that are suffering the greatest hardship during these difficult time and is trying to create headlines that might bolster public opinion for the democrat parties largest spending bill in the history of the world!

Once you sniff someone's breath, and you can smell free government cheese on them, you then believe they're reliable?

The lie thing is a little extreme and over the top,coming from a obviously bitter,biased POV.It could be a mistaken communication or mis-speak.The jump to the most severe and negative interpretations is the red flag.

But let`s say(arguendo)that he flat out told a bald faced lie in order to purposely deceive and mis-lead the American people...

When Obama lied,no one died......

If you`re going to throw around the liar moniker,there`s a few neo-con/bush lies that need to be explained and squared.The "bush isn`t pres anymore"line won`t work,because the brave young men and women he got killed, are still dead.

Unless/until someone can prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the specific business manager in question lied I'll take his "Innocent until proven guilty" words over a politician with a proven beyond any doubt whatsoever recent history of lying time and time again when it was politically expedient for him to do so.

The plain and simple fact of the matter is that NObama lied his way into the White House.

How is it that bush got into the white house, after running two businesses(his only bus. ventures) into the ground?

Sanity,Reliability is a hard one to prove to me, for anyone. actions speak louder than words.
While I realise that capitalism is part of our lives, and a neccesary evil , Ive worked all my life for social programs, customer service and healthcare, until I started my own business.
Not sure I want any more whine tho with my government cheese, its tasting corked.

what would be the purpose of the lie?

going by your theory the Caterpillar CEO executes a plan of deception to lie to the president of the united states. what benefit it gives his company....zero.

Now how is it that when a Democrat claims he was given wrong INTEL he's not lying. Its somebody else's fault. However when a Republican gets bad info he is lying.

I had many, many problems with Bush.
Just everything i had a problem with bush, Obama is going to do it 100 times worse.
