Two books I always reccommend to people are:

"The Tao of Pooh"
and
"The Te of Piglet" both by Ben Hoff. (The "Te of Piglet" is especially good for subs who might be having identity problems with submitting to others. The Tao makes a wonderful case for how nobel being a "small animal" can be. )

Any of the "Hyperion" books by Dan Simmons.

"Death From the Skies" by Dr. Phil Plait.  (Okay, okay... these last two are pimps for guys I know... but they're still GREAT reads.)

What are other people reading that they would recommend?

P. G. Wodehouse

Anything at all, and always pause in your reading if you want to take a sip of a drink.

Carl Hiaasen is fun to read, and so is Tom Dorsey.

I'm partial to anything by James Lee Burke.

Me too.  I love everything he writes but especially the Dave Robicheaux series and especially ""Purple Cane Road" and "Jolie Blon's Bounce."  I can read and re-read those two and the end of "Crusader's Cross?"  Brings tears to my eyes everytime.

I don't read alot of fiction but other than JLB I love Greg Iles, Richard Matheson, Joe R. Lansdale and Robert McCammon.  James Swain, Linwood Barclay and Harlan Coben ain't too shabby either[;)].

I read tons of nonfiction and am currently reading a fascinating book called "The Baby Thief:  The Untold Story of Georgia Tann, the Baby Seller Who Corrupted Adoption" by Barbara Bisantz Raymond.  For about 30 years, she operated a children's home in Memphis, TN.  She was neglecting and abusing the (oftentimes stolen) children and then selling them to the highest bidder.  She would abduct babies/children or coerce their mothers into leaving them with her and then she'd kidnap them and sell them off in illegal adoptions.  She sold more than 5,000 children and killed many through neglect.  Corrupt politicians and friends in high places (with money) enabled her to do all this.

It's an engrossing book but very sad......................luci

I haven't read Hyperion since it came out. A truly superb book. I really ought to get the sequels, and reread the original!

I just finished a novella by Julia Leigh called "Disquiet" http://www.bookbrowse.com/mag/nm_reviews/?detail=124830kd

Short and not very sweet sad little tale of pain within a family that offers no simple answers.  I read it in a night's sitting...it was that captivating.

Rereading Neuromancer
cuz all else I read is either law or heavy finance and some days I just need not to have to think too much

Ooooh have you read Randy Wayne White?
He does a fun mystery series set in the Ten Thousand Islands area, I found him after devouring Hiaasen. 'Sick Puppy' is my favorite by him.

I lurve book threads! I lurve books!
