Sfortzando -> What kind of question is that? (2/17/2009 3:27:22 PM)

So this may be more like a rant, buuuuut...

I actually got a message from a Dom asking 'What a girl like me was doing at a place like this?' My first and immediate thought was, what kind of stupid question is that? You don't exactly accidentally join a community called Collarme and create a profile geared towards finding yourself a Domme. My second thought was that this guy must be stuck in the fifties, because really? What's a girl like you...? My third thought was how the hell did he get through my email filter. That's when I realised that though he had a female listing, his photograph was of a guy, and he identifies as male.

WTF?

Its probably just a spammed rubbish chat up line.  From the subs I've spoken to on here, such a message is nothing new.  I'm sure others will say similar.  Best advice is to block him and delete.  Oh and get used to doing it

But some of us here do not need to hide behind profiles of the opposite gender and do have good original stuff to say!

angelikaJ -> RE: What kind of question is that? (2/17/2009 3:40:58 PM)

"What is a nice girl like you doing in a place like this?" used to be a standard come-on line... he probably thought he was being clever.

Trivia: Martin Scorsese used the line as title for a student film...in 1963.

OK it might just be that you've never heard that line before?  It's likely he was using it to be funny because he was trying to initiate contact and that is one of the Top Ten Awful And Overused Pickup Lines Ever.  Because everyone KNOWS how overused and awful it is, people then use it ironically to be funny and sarcastic to show "hey, I'm really not that bad"

The fact that you overreacted like you did simply shows a miscommunication due to that hole in your mainstream cultural knowledge.

What LA said.
As for the guy/girl quandry, who knows...maybe an error.  Maybe a goober.  < shrug >  You could ask.

His next question will be, "do you want to come up and look at my sketches?"... that's another pick up line from wayyyyyy before you were born.

I don't confess to ever using cheesy lines but the only one I remember is the one that goes "If I told you you had a cute little body, would you hold it against me".  Is that one in your list?  I also seem to think that line comes from a song?

Huntertn -> RE: What kind of question is that? (2/17/2009 3:54:14 PM)

No, not really.  People make mistakes in their profiles.  I was talking to one guy who identified as straight male dom, and I said, "so why you do have CBT listed under LIVES FOR in your profile?"  In that case, it was clearly a mistake.

Looking at your photo here, you simply look very pretty and wholesome (please no shooting the messenger). I'm guessing he was most likely just using that observation to start up a dialog in what he perceived to be a clever and funny way.  I'm thinking he was most likely looking for a clever and funny reply. That's what I would have likely expected if I were in his situation. [:)]

feydeplume -> RE: What kind of question is that? (2/17/2009 4:10:30 PM)

I thought it was etchings not sketches, but maybe i just watch way too many old movies.

Sfortzando -> RE: What kind of question is that? (2/17/2009 4:10:33 PM)

Yeah, I'm probably going with the troll thing. And, if the female/male thing really is just a mistake and he was trying to be funny, I guess it just struck my annoying bone instead of my funny bone. Being sick will do that to ya. :(

It probably just irked me more because I have a big "No Men" header on my profile.

MistressAinCT -> RE: What kind of question is that? (2/17/2009 4:13:13 PM)

At least he didn't ask you what your sign is...

mefisto69 -> RE: What kind of question is that? (2/17/2009 4:24:23 PM)

Hmmmmm ...... strange come on as it may be - try not to be rude, out of hand, to the CD's TG's and other off brands that reside here, most are nice people. Oh - and - is that the Romanian spelling of Sforzando ?

As long as you didn't reply by asking:
Hi, do you come here often?
Please say you didn't....

Sfortzando -> RE: What kind of question is that? (2/17/2009 4:30:13 PM)

I didn't. Though it could have been ammusing to find out how many lame pick up lines could be exchanged.

I responded by facepalming and hitting the delete button.

CatdeMedici -> RE: What kind of question is that? (2/17/2009 5:19:11 PM)

Its called bait, the hook gets set when you respond.

oh no way!!  i had an old friend named 'Dave' who asked me that.  I sincerely thought he did sketches and as Master and i were leaving the bar i said "Oh Master, Dave wanted to show us some sketches over at his house"  Master got a full on belly laugh i didn't understand and gave me one of those kisses on the forehead.  But he didn't explain but now i get it!!    LOL

to the OP..
i'm in the boat with the funny pick up line to start a dialog and i don't know.. i find it's easier to get through things with a little sense of humor, but maybe that's just me.

Favorite cheesy pick up line is: "Do you have a map? because i just got lost in your eyes"

Pick up line i used on Master was:  "I'm only in it for the sex, so don't call me in the morning"

best of luck to you.

girlygurl -> RE: What kind of question is that? (2/17/2009 5:24:36 PM)

I always liked the question, "What's your sign?" [:)]
