There are part of the plan that deserve attention....the ones you chose are not great examples.

Well lets see....California has been on a self-destruct mission for decades...people are fleeing the State in droves, taxes are enormous...money is being thrown at social problems but not at the schools which can't seem to educate kids. One of my examples was 90210...one of the richest zip codes in the country getting $10 million for street paving! Gimme a break...that city of glitz can afford to fix their own streets...And that rail to Las Vegas...cut down travel time...and also thousands of jobs along the highways in those restraurants, diners, gas stations, towns like Barstow would die..as would anyone trying to make a living along Interstate 15...Unintended consequences...that thousands of people will lose jobs and businesses. But hey, at least the high rollers wouldn't have to drive to LAX and go through all that messy security or drive that roughly 300 miles through the desert....just hop on the MHD rail and in a couple of hours be wisked off the fantasy land for adults...at a cost of $6 billion!..or more!! But hey...think of the dozens of conductors and engineers that would have work, as well as track maintainence people...

What if they made the rail stop at those towns? Then, people could use it to commute to wherever and cut down on exhaust fumes. It would also keep people coming to the towns to patronize the businesses of which you speak.

Let's just let California sink....what the hell....let's just let the whole country sink....why not?....
If only the rest of the world was as smart as you cory. If California was it's own country it would only be the 35th largest economy in the world but, hell....who needs what it produces?....not those who live in that agricultural dynamo of New Jersey....
Those who live in nice areas don't need their roads fixed to provide work for those who cannot live in those areas...wouldn't want that, now would we? your side of the aisle didn't want education in the stimulus plan, so I wouldn't be so fast to critisize....Vegas let it go as well....it is just a cesspool of gamblers and degenerates....wouldn't want to build something to help that economy out...I know, with all of the unemployment there, let's give them tax breaks...they won't be paying any taxes but what the hell, if they ever do work, they will have more to spend. That will fix it!...And those sewers, let's not fix those...we wouldn't want hygienic conditions in cities like Edison, New Jersey....hell, let them piss outside, it works for the rest of Jersey....just step outside and take a deep breath....you couldn't see good in anything that comes from someone who doesn't prescribe the Republican Pablum unless it were dressed in black leather and smacking your ass....

Interesting idea..but I don't think it will work. The problem is that the trip to Las Vegas and getting to the casino's is what people have in mind. Barstow, for example, can't compete when Vegas would be reachable on a high speed train. The economies of those towns and villages is based on auto traffic and the people stopping for gas, breakfast, lunch, dinner going west to east and east to west on the way back to Los Angeles...and whatever else travelers need when they are in an auto. True, there is local business in the casino on the border...but if those people could get to Vegas in a high speed train I think there is a potential that even the "local" business traffic would be lessened if not totally disappear.
