Going to image 5 with former Nj Governor McGreevy.  The fact he had a gay lover was used as a distraction for the press and the public from what really occurred.
His lover Golan Cipel was an agent for a foreign power.  What does that have to do with anything you may ask?  Well in NJ they were setting up a position for a state homeland security chief.  President Bush got Bill Clintons former CIA director who was also lives in NJ all setup for it.  However the NJ governor nixed it and put his lover in the position.  SO not only was a better man passed up but the governor jeopardized the states security by putting his lover in the position.  It’s basically the equivalent of Bill Clinton putting Monica Lewinski as a member of his cabinet.

All anybody knows about the scandal was that McGreevy was cheating on his wife with this man and that’s it.

I didn't say he wasn't a racist. He might be. I don't know enough about him to say either that he is or isn't. All I'm saying is that we shouldn't automatically assume the cartoon had racist intent behind it.

ONLY the Chimps were repulsed when they were compared to bushit II. NO patriots or citizens felt the same way.

I'll say he plays on shock.  People probably buy the Post just to be offended.  From the examples offered, a few were worth an eyeroll, a couple more were offensive to my sensitivities.  One of them made me laugh out loud.  What's that old rule?  90% of everything is crap?

Why not?  It worked for Howard Stern.  Free speech is a marvelous thing.

Well, at least we now know what the conservative right's new avenue of attack will be for the next four years: cartoons. Cartoons offered up in the nastiest, most cowardly way possible. First, there was the New Yorker cover, depicting him and Michelle as terrorists, and now they stoop to comparing Obama to a mad chimp. Perhaps we should start a file on our computers now, and entitle it: GOP Racist Obama Cartoons.

What do you suppose the GOP will attack him with next? Minstrel show performer? Step'nfetchit? A butler serving in the southern plantation "big house"? I'm sure whatever their neandethal minds cook up, they will put it out there on a national level, and then immediately deny that it was their intent "to use such a racist stereotype in portraying the President of these United States who should always be referred to with the utmost respect because... blah, blah, blah..." Please remember, this is the GOP we're talking about. These are not people known for restraint when it comes to outright lies and insults to their oposition.... Who was it who circulated over 100,000 VHS tapes that claimed Bill and Hillary Clinton were murderers, that Hillary was a lesbian, that their daughter was a lesbian, that Bill had duffle bags of cocaine delivered to the White House for his personal use? That he used Arkansas Troopers to procure underage girls for him? That the first couple was responsible for possibly up to 40 murders during his tenure as Gov. of  The Natural State? Which party was it that told a reporter who DARED to ask them where their PAC money was coming from to, "Shut your fucking communistc mouth you cunt." Which party had a VP (chairman of the Senate) who told one of it's members, out loud, live on CSPAN, to "go fuck himself?"

They claim the insulting cartoon was "Ooopsie, we made an inadvertant mistake... we didn't mean to imply that out first black President was lower on the evolutionary scale than us old white men who have been in power for the last 230+ years."

Don't believe a word of it. It's the GOP  SOB's SOP.

I think it is both.  And because I know the history of political cartoons that showed various immigrant groups and African slaves as monkeys and apes, it is very offensive.

These images are specific to Irish immigrants -

The cartoon wasn't particularly funny.  But other than that, I say tough shit.  No one has a right to not be offended.  Remember, people are offended by our lifestyles, and we tell them tough shit, don't we?  Anyone offended can get over it.

Right.  Those Condoleeza cartoons were SO warm and fuzzy.  Liberal hypocrites can all go to hell.

What's your take on the cartoon?  Is it a racist shot at the President, or just a joke in bad taste about the bill?
well Seeings as obama didnt write the porkulus bill then no.
and even if it was, it would not be.
it wasnt that long ago that they ( the media) drew W as a chimp.

Coldwarrior57, I really, REALLY hate to say this, but I agree with you on this one. At least the main point. Not a racist shot at the President.

There is however, a little difference between depicting W as a chimp vs. depicting Obama as a chimp. In W's case, it's clear that the joke is about intelligence, not race.

I don't know what sign you're talking about, but perceived threats to the president have never been covered by the first amendment, and don't pretend you didn't know that. You're just being ridiculously partisan again.
