ORIGINAL: Carmeldelight Yes, the cartoonist joke was purely racist. First, this is a political cartoon, not a joke. Second, you cannot know the cartoonist's intent, even after he makes a statement to the event, since it will be your bias that allows you to accept or reject what he or she states as the intent. To compare former President Bush to a chimp was an insult to the chimp, because a chimp is smarter than our former President. And who will administer the IQ test to prove or disprove this patently imbittered and false statement? Former President Bush should have never been President. First off he just took the white and was never properly voted into office. The U.S. Constitution and Supreme Court would disagree. While Bush 43 did not win the popular vote, he did properly win the electoral vote. The incidents of "hanging chads" in Florida can quite easily be attributed to attmepted voter fraud by the Democrat machine in those heavily Democrat precincts. If Democrat candidate Al Gore Jr. would have won either his home state, or President Clinton's home state, then he, not Bush, would have been the 43rd president of the U.S. and the "issues" in Florida would have been moot. We the people of the United States of American Never stood up for our selves to have former President Bush impeached out of the White House. The reason is because the rich white folks wanted the man in office so that they could make money. Now the rich white people made their money and the economy is messed up. Bush passed a stumils plan where as Wall Street and the Banks did not have to make account on how they spent the money. The money was spent on air plans, raises and parties, but none of the money was used on what they asked the government to give them the money to use for in their company. The Democrat controlled house made no attempt to impeach Bush 43. You do realize that the language in the above paragraph can be taken as racist? There are rich black, asian, hispanic and Native American folks, too. Bush signed the legislation sent him. The main authors of said legislation were the Democrat leadership of the House and Senate. If any conspiracy could be posited, it should be a legislative and banking conspiracy. Do some research about national land values artificially inflating before a recession and what precedes and encourages such inflation. The legislated funds appear to be mispent because no controls were put into the legislation. A legislative oversight by the Democrat leadership, not Bush 43. People losing their homes and living in shelters or in their car. What white people will never know is the bigotry that African American people have gone though in history. A white man will never be shot 50 times by a white cop, a white man will not be raped by a white cop as African American men are when some are arrested. I know white people who are or have lived in shelters or their car. Of course, and unfortunately, there has been white bigotry, and thankfully it is decreasing. However, in the course of improving, all we have arrived at so far is that bigotry is now raceless, with everyone allowed to be a bigot. You want bigotry? How about accademically successful and articulate blacks being accused of trying to pass as white, and being called Thin Mints, Twinkies, etc. BY BLACKS! When black leadership and group think quit picking people such as Rodney King, high school bullies, and racist, misoginistic rappers as their icons, I will take their representation of the "plight of the black man," more seriously. Why are there more blacks in prison than other ethnic races in the U.S.? Because they are committing more crime, that's why. More will be accomplished through self-responsibility, accademic and professional success, than by black anger or white guilt. You want to look to the Rev's Sharpton and Jackson? You want to look to Rodney King? You want to look to Snoop Dog and 50 Cent? I'll look to Bill Cosby, Bernie Mac, Colin Powell, Condoleezza Rice, Clarence Thomas, G. W. Carver, Spike Lee, Pearl Bailey, Aretha Franklin, Lena Horn, Sammy Davis Jr., Oprah Winfrey, Alan Keyes, J. C. Watts, Ervin "Magic" Johnson, quite possibly Barrack Obama, and more like them, for my hope of the black ideal. If a African American man had did what Maroff did he would have been put in jail and not been able to walk the streets. Maddoff mainly fooled white people, didn't he? As for why he's not in jail... probably because he has dirt on people, not because of his race. But, you are correct. Maddoff should be punished to the full extent of the law. At no point have I claimed that there is no bigotry or discrimination in any dominantly non-black culture. Every culture has discrimination concerning those not like them. Even today's black culture, in Europe, the U.S., and Africa discriminates among its own. Discrimination is not right. However, until the cartoonist claims otherwise, there is no discrimination in that political cartoon. MH
