Welcome to the world of having to be your own tech support... sort of.

- Which version of linux is installed?

- Have you looked on your notebook's manufacturer's web site for possible updates they may already have posted?

- Have you tried running your linux's software update application or utility? Perhaps the version of Flash you need is found therein?

At the very least, if you could post your version of linux, someone here might be able to suggest which Flash version you should download and install.

Let's try this...

Can you post who made the notebook and it's model name? A model number would be nice too (though don't publicly post the serial number). That info should be found on a label that's probably on the bottom of the notebook.

I can research with that info and see what version of linux was most likely installed.

Then I am stumped. The only info I can find regarding anything about this unit are various sales pages like the one I provided the link to earlier.

From the reading I have been doing it appears that if you use the web browser in the device and it comes across a site that requires an update to a plugin, like Flash, it's supposed to automatically download the appropriate plugin and install it for you... more or less. After it's done its thing, all you should have to do is shut the device off and turn it back on. You don't need to know where the plugin was installed as the system takes care of that for you.

Since I cannot find a copy of the user manual anywhere online I have no idea what came preinstalled on your notebook. I'm sure, though, there is some sort of system preference, control panel, or system settings that might be useful...

Greedy, the notebook you have does not come with a standard linux installation so trying to use standard linux troubleshooting methods may or may not work. Yours has an embedded linux made specifically for your device (and others like it) and it may not come with every tool that a normal linux installation has.

Your user manual, if you have one, should be able to tell you how to update and install things like Flash and YIM. Right now, that's the best source of information I believe that exists.

I second Ashers suggestion. Go for Ubuntu. Easy to learn and use, and very friendly and helpful communities on the net.

I found this site (finally!) which may be of some use. When Greedy mentioned "bon echo" I searched on that and found references to this site and FAQ:

The problem with Greedy's notebook is that it is using an embedded linux and cannot be easily replaced. Her little book doesn't even grant superuser privileges which makes even the more routine linux maintenance tasks near impossible.

I also see that it does not support yim, but has pidgin
I hate to say this but...wow, this sucks... it's not a real linux os, but a linux based os with limited features of linux
