I couldn't resist trying that image host thing (thanks gimp!)

This is a picture of Oliver shortly after I had brought him back from the vet for some dental work.  The kitty novocain they used on him hadn't worn off yet and he couldn't pull his tongue back in his mouth yet.  As you can see, he was rather put out by the whole thing.

eh...I can't think of a good name for the way he looks....arghhh....
(I want to use Japanese names, but they don't feel right either....)

edit:
the image host is decent, but it holds them for a limited time...sometimes a year or more....so use it for temp reasons...
Also, if you have a pic that is copyrighted, or that you do not want strangers to see, don't use it!

I couldn't resist a few more:

This is Oliver using his evil mind control powers on me.  "You will give me tuna fish now!"

"Yeah, I like sitting in boxes.  You wanna make something of it?"

Birds!  Birds!

The day the air conditioner conked out.

I'm no good in the morning until I get that first cup of coffee.

I'm ready for my close up.

Ah Hell, now I have to post a photo of Miss Kitters:

http://g.imagehost.org/0191/IMAG0004.jpg

I took that in my crappy studio apartment in Little Rock a few years ago.  If you notice the paint difference in the background, I was trying to decide on a color for the walls.  I looked, but I don't have any recent photos of her.  I can't seem to find her for a new one.  .  I saw her around supper time, than she headed out for some night time adventures.

LOL.  Sanity, my grandfather was the toughest SOB I can imagine.  He was a West Virginia miner.  In his last few years of life, he had a cat named "socks."  I shit you not, that cat would follow him on his half-mile walk to the post office every day.

Cats are the epitome of sensual.

I would say, though, that kitty dental need be addressed, seriously.
Even for we humans, bad teeth can lead directly to serious heart problems (blood infection).

Cats are serious stoics.

I had one, whose lower jaw had been shredded, by who knows what.
Naked bone was about all that was left of it.

When I found him,
and had him in a box on my lap, en route to the vet (no happy endings, there)
the poor soul was purring (I felt so very inadequate, that I could not save him).

I was 15.

Pawprints on one's heart, indeed.

To get back on topic: Name for a cat ~

My notion is that it ought be something which leads itself to easy calling.

Mostly two syllables.

When you call your li'l beastlet (whether in from outdoors, or merely for noshies)

...just one aspect for consideration.

I'm not sure you read my post correctly.  It was addressed.  That picture was taken after I had brought him back from the vet.

My aunt called from Alabama and said her and my uncle found a stray cat.  They took it to the vet, and the vet told them it was a Maine Coon Cat.  I find that odd in Alabama; but never the less, I defer to the vet's knowledge.

Actually finding a Maine Coon anywhere in the US isn't unreasonable, slaveboy.  They're strictly domestic with no wild ties, and are a prized breed for showing when they're papered.  Maine Coons are what I spent some time 20 years ago showing for friends who bred them.  They're extremely affectionate, quite intelligent, and lacking in the health related issues that many of the top show breeds tend to display from inbreeding.  They're Incredibly good mousers, and from personal experience tend to remain active and playful well into advanced age.

As for names........ I'll have to go back and read the rest of the thread for a minute lol

Baxter is a fine name for a cat.

Also Armstrong. Armstrong would make an excellent name for a cat, in my opinion.

Hugo.

Don't know why, but after seeing his pic, he looks like a Hugo to me.

After going back and reading the Rest of the thread, and taking a look at the photos......

the lil man is positively Georgous, slaveboy....... and definately of rather regal lineage, even if found wandering beyond his preveious domain.
How about something like Squire Tux?  (Squire - a knight in training - Tux as short for tuxedo, since he's black and white with that jabot and gloves - and of course as a play on Friar Tuck from Robin Hood lol)
One of the maine coons that I still hold close and dear to my heart from my time showing them - Mr Magnificat
my own black long haired part maine coon tom that is currently part of the household ended up with Merlin when I adopted him from the pound (they'd given him the Hugely Imaginative - HA - name of 'blackie' which he refused to answer to - but he responds to Merlin quite well.)

btw Marc - yours is one of The most beautiful Odd Eyed Tri-Colors I have ever seen.

My cat's name is Peter. We asked him if he wanted to be named Peter and he meowed. So that was that.

I just picked up a stray of my own today so I'm also in the market for a name as well and ummmm I don't have any suggestions. But I think I'll live with this girl for a week or so and wait for her name to come to me. I can't use the meowing trick because this one never shuts up.

Peter,
I love it!.

We had a cat called 'Dog' once...it was a seriously crazy cat.
I don't think it had anything to do with it having an idenity crisis.
*Laughs*

My friends have a cat called Mr Big Stuff....I love that....she yells "Mr Big Stuff" out the back door....one time a neighbour popped their head over the fence and said "I saw your husband just go inside!"...ha ha ha
