Slaveboy, I have two Maine Coons, male and a female. Coons have unique characters, are very large cats (the largest of domesticated breeds, i believe) and tend not to miaow when they 'talk'... they uniquely chirrup. They also have no fear of water and love to drink from a free running tap instead of from a bowl, and never lose their playfulness. My two are 'miniatures' due to having contracted the flu virus while still inside their mothers and as a result, it stunted their organs, but still have the big lion's ruff around the neck, semi long fur and big bushy tails.

That may explain why my Oliver was smaller than the average Main Coon.  I always presumed that there was a little something else in him like perhaps a grandparent who wasn't a Main Coon.  Wow.  Learn something new every day.  Although smaller than most Main Coons he was pure in all other things including the "chirp" which I heard often and especially when the food dish was anything less than overflowing.

I love that chirp!  He chirps when he's after a bug, when he says good morning, when he's asking to play with the laser light (he's an addict to it)...  He meows, too, but it's this really cute high pitched squeak.  He squeaks, I squeak back, he squeaks back, and so on.  This can go on for minutes.  We have lots of intellectual conversations this way.

He loves water from the tap, as has been mentioned here, and likes to jump into the tub when I'm done showering.  But I've had to bathe him and he's not so keen on that.

Oh, cats and laser pointers - hours of good fun!  I love how they pounce on it and can't figure out how the red dot suddenly appears on top of their paws!  My favorite was to have the red dot "hide" under a shelf.  Then turn off the laser pointer and wait to see how long Oliver would wait - in a get ready to pounce posistion - for it to come back out.  Youtube has some funny vids of cats and laser pointers.

He's quite the beautiful creature.....looks like he knows it too...but hey, what cat doesn't?

I'm with the crowd that lets the kitty tell you what his/her name is....I had my little girl for about 2 weeks before she fessed up her name was Squeak........she has the cuuuuutest little squeak...no meow, just a squeak!  All of my cats started out with a different name than they have now......it just sort of evolved.

Having said that, well, I don't really have any suggestions.....but Lord, he is a pretty boy!

OK....I do have a suggestion...he looks like a Sidney.......yep...that's it, Sidney!

Aileen, my thoughts go out to you.....hugs, too.  I've been there, done that, burned the t-shirt, and it doesn't get any easier.  I do believe that we will be reunited in someplace......you'll see your furbaby again.

Thanks Vendaval and girly. Although it's not making me feel any better. I've been so weepy since I realized what was going on. Tomorrow will be a very hard day for me.

Aileen, and anyone else who has lost a beloved furbaby, this always makes me cry but it helps:

The Rainbow Bridge

I know I'll be with my babies one day....

Aileen, all i can say is that i hope the happy memories will bring more smiles than tears soon.  i lost my dusty the same way, and it was heartbreaking.  i'll be thinking of you both today.
as for naming the cat, since he's such a pretty boy, how about floyd?  the name that hit me the moment i saw the picture was shadowprince.  beautiful cat!  we currently have a merlin, a jinx, a precious--so named by her previous owners, and nack, the surviving littermate of two sisters, nick passed away two years ago due to fip.  i didn't know the shots are only 50% effective, if that.  having her pass due to that was a total surprize.
