1) "The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, & breeds reptiles of the mind." -William Blake

2) "The happiness of man is: I will.  The happiness of woman is:  He wills.  'Behold, just now the world became perfect!' - thus thinks every woman when she obeys out of entire love. And woman must obey and find a depth for her surface.  Surface is the disposition of woman: a mobile, stormy film over shallow water.   Man's disposition, however, is deep:  His river roars in subterranean caves: woman feels His strength but does not comprehend it." ~Nietzsche

3) Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind. -- Dr. Seuss

NorthernGent -> RE: There's this quote... (6/13/2010 7:29:16 AM)

Something like....."nothing in life is certain....except that nothing in life is certain....and even that isn't certain".

Plenty of people down the years have said similar things....but I'd imagine Descartes is the man to thank for that line of thought.

Oh and "nothing in life is free".......and "you've got to get out there and grab the bull by the horns"........and "time waits for no man".....not sure where they came from but as a young lad growing up this was pretty much the extent of Mother and Father's dinner table conversation......"can you pass the salt please?"......"time waits for no man"....."what?! I only asked for the fuckin' salt!"....good advice all the same...

And my favourite.....I've found this to be as wise advice as I've ever had...."never underestimate anyone".
