i'll play along....but let us NEVER speak of this again!!!!! Jaleel White "Urkel" i have a thing for nerds. Rowan Atkinson....but in Blackadder 1&2 garb. Gerard Depardieu....but entirely in French. His English would ruin my island experience. Simon Cowell...he's so mean...and i kinda like it.... The cast of "Noah's Arc"....however they'd let me participate......and they count as one entity...so there!!!!!

I'm not sure they were powerful, Asher, we tend to see/hear what we want to and this is especially true given an interview he gave wherein he said it was all 'bollocks' and he believed in what he says via his music as much as he would the tooth fairy. The gist of what he said was that if people were gullible enough to buy into it, he was happy to continue capitalising.

He said a lot of things like that, and yet I dug up his auto-biography again and I think I understand it now he is afraid of being taken too seriously... OR at least that is the way that it seems... He says a lot that the statements he makes, that his whole persona is both real and not, he doesnt think of himself as Marylin Manson, but he is, and that is his art. that may not make sense, im real sick and more than a lil tired...

I can understand why he wouldn't want to take responsibility, but he also knows there are a lot of impressionable teens who will run with what he says to the point of self harm. I love his art, it's intriguing, as I'm sure the man himself is. Sorry you aren't feeling at all well and hope you're soon feeling better, Asher. No matter what stupid teenangers will twist anything to mean what they think is "cool" Trying to be responsible for what people all over the world do with your words, especially teenagers, is downright suicidal... I think that he is scared that if he is taken too seriously, then he becomes a very real threat to the religious right among others, and that thought scares the hell out of him... He lived in the bible belt, he knows the kind of off the wall shit that "true believers" are capable of. I would love to just sit the man down and talk to him, I already missed any chance I might have had to talk to Dr Lavey while he was alive, and both men hold (or seem to hold) similar values and points of view, which intrigue me I am sure ill be better in a few days, I just hate the fog that seems to descend on my thought process when I get too sick :(

Coercive persuasion, Asher. Present a charismatic and dynamic personality (people, when faced with someone who flies in the face of authority, who's self esteem is enhanced, who seems to be beholden to no one but themselves, tend to want to believe that if they follow they can achieve the very same), focus on a group of people whose attention you know you can hold (in this case, vulnerable and impressionable young persons) offer something alluring and attractive (ie non-traditional, out of the mainstream, a 'safe' haven for the perceived 'wayward' - the carrot, if you will) and you find yourself not a free-thinker at all, but someone who has simply substituted one thing with another, becoming the very thing they are trying to change.

True, but shouldnt the responsibility lie with the ones who make that choice? When you worship someone you open yourself to becoming nothing more than a vessel they fill... it is a choice to follow them, all the charisma in the world cannot win out against free will... If they are truly that vulnerable to these messages should we not look to the parents? If you wont stick up and provide guidance, then who does? Maybe I am wrong, I dont know, when I was a teen I didnt idolize any singer/songwriter, some had good ideas, but if they said that jumping off a cliff was cool my response would have been somewhat to the effect of lolwhat? Want to be different? Stop being cool ((That should be a t-shirt)) Anyway, im off to bed, I needs my sleep we can continue this later if you would like, im having fun :)
