My question is, Would I like England?

On some other threads Northern Gent portrayed the english national character and lifestyle as sort of mellow...didn't sound all bad!

Kind of mellow? Wtf? Where? I need a break and a cuppa.... somebody find me some of that mellow...somewhere got to be some of that mellow stuff somewhere.....

I moved to Austin knowing only my partners.  Away from friends, family, scene recognition, job.

I wouldn't go to Canada cuz it's too frickin cold and my partner is here, so I won't leave him.

If we're talking about YOU Prin, well pretty much any choice you make that's high risk or quick is a bad idea.  Give me proof that you've actually taken things carefully and slowly and used good judgement, then maybe I could consider recommending it.

I don't do 'good' judgment because that involves judgment according to a conformism... usually.
I make sound judgment based upon emotional insight, retrospection and integrity. It may not come across like that from where you are but then you don't know me.
That's ok though as I have a way of deflecting other peoples' judgments that don't nurture me. Drop 'em like a dead donkey.

The health insurance is good here, once you qualify for it. You still pay for prescriptions but not at the price we'd pay in the States. It's not as easy to get into specialists as it is in the States but there is excellent health care here. I love our family doctor, he's incredible. And if you can't get into your regular doctor, there are walk-in clinics for quick emergencies. I haven't seen people running to the hospital here because they have a cold, like I saw working on an ambulance in the States. It probably still happens but not to the degree I've seen in the past.

As long as you don't have anything very serious that requires a lot of care or
If you are expecting immediate service  your going to be sadly disappointed..the shortage of doctors and nurses means they get to you when they can.

the rural areas  have the greatest shortages and it can take 3 years to get yourself a family doctor, my doctor is the last remaining of a 4 doctor clinic, it can now take 6 weeks to get in for an appointment.

Because we have a single tier medical system paid for from our taxes we are not only affected by doctor/nurse shortages  but by the politicians who determine  what they are willing to cover and unless you are affected  directly you often have no idea how serious things are within the medical system
Ontario is the worse province for cancer care..

Pet scanners have been in several hospitals for up to 10 years and to this date  they are not part of the standard medical.care and only available for experiment trials  for a couple cancer types the red tape required for this  can mean long waits  it took 2 months to have the scan done,  many oncologists are having to send their patients state side for the testing if they can afford the approx $2500 cost

cancer chemo drugs--- you had better hope that your particular type of cancer  responds favourably to the cancer  drugs that Ontario covers, because otherwise you are shit out of luck which appears to be 7 drugs covered  currently.....compare to British Columbia  which covers 20 different cancer drugs.

And one by a patient in Ontario  who  not only could not get a PET scan  but had to go to quebec for her surgery as she had been previously turned down here in Ontario
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5l5IrTPXn2k&feature=related

this is  a video of a government conference about the issues of the reality in Ontario with regards to access of drugs
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8SW7gBmOi60

it resulted in 3 more drugs added this past December..which is an improvement but still keeps us behind in health care in Canada  though we are the largest populated province in Canada and we pay the greatest bulk of taxes for that health care which we are being denied

then the wait times for surgery......as of the 10 of march I will have been waiting 4 months  to have my tumor removed ..I still do not have a surgery date... my cancer was caught at early stage without any mestasis.....my odds  looked very good considering this is one of the worst cancers to get ..of all those diagnosed only 14% will be alive 5 years later

Will it still be as good by the time I finally have surgery???  A few years ago I was  questions why 2 young adults I knew, died of seemingly treatable  cancers if caught early.  I had went through ovarian cancer 27 years earlier which had poorer odds than the cancer types they had. I had asked the mom of one why to long going ahead with surgery, assuming  it had to do with trying an alternate treatment first....but never got an answer....  now that I am going thru myself I  understand,   you have no choice you sit and wait, worry  and pray and hope you will get in before it is too late.  27 years ago , the doctor told me sorry but you need surgery right away, I was on the operating table a week later.

And I guess just to clarify  the long wait is not because of where I live.....I  am having  it done at a major regional cancer centre rather than at my local hospital... and local is not faster, with  my emergency hysterectomy due to hemorrhaging was a 3 month wait and that was after 3 different surgeons were contacted to see who could take me the fastest.

I am so sorry, Maya...  I wish that stories like yours were rare, but I know personally several people who died needlessly thanks to the slowness of getting help in the Ontario medical system.   Even if I do move, I doubt I would give up my US insurance.

Canada? Sounds like a plan...

*puts aside explanatory notes on C.A.F.F Touring, bits of paper with 'TORONTO', 'WINNIPEG', 'EDMONTON' and 'MONTREAL' pencilled on them*

It's probably much better than somewhere like Irkutsk (middle of Siberia) with its harsh winters, deep forests, and marathon 5-6 day train journeys in hot sleeper wagons with Kazachstani businessmen, Mongolian traders and Chinese students and the fact that half the potential employers pay you in 'towar' (things to sell or cases of vodka) and it's nigh impossible to get a work permit for Siberia.

But then again there's a place in the UK called Swindon and I wouldn't touch that with a barge pole either. It's full of Toytown shopping arcades and Legoland shopping malls and it looks really bad when it's raining. I've only been there three times but it's rained every time I've been there, so I guess it rains a lot there. The people in Swindon look miserable, which is not surprising if you visit the place.

If the whole world was a submissive, then the dominant would be thinking about 'Swindon' when he opened his toy box, or would it be a domme who would be thinking about 'Swindon'?

Either way I don't think anything in Canada could be like Swindon.
