I never understood or knew where the  sagging and bagging look came from until I read (of all people's book) Charles Barley's "Who's Affraid of a Large Black Man".
He was interviewing Jesse Jackson who explained it(paraphrasing)  "that the people who came from jail pants would hang low like that because they couldn't have belts  and in the tough neighborhoods they were thought to be cool because they went to jail and so there fore they were tough and to be emulated".
Now, I have no clue as to the validity but, it seems to make sense.

... and at the times I saw this over the weekend.. it was all skinny little white dudes!

I never sagged, but I did get in a fight with a kid once where he was sagging, I hit him hard and he tried to run, his pants slipped and he fell over... funniest school fight ever.

DesFIP -> RE: Saggy Pants (3/3/2009 3:54:34 PM)

My teen seems to alternate between oversized saggy pants and the skinny leg tight ones. And instead of belts, he's wearing a boot lace at the waistband.

Makes no sense but I'm a mom, I'm supposed to be out of it.

Asherdelampyr -> RE: Saggy Pants (3/3/2009 3:56:23 PM)

a boot lace?
I may wear rope instead of belts, but that is just so I always have some handy... does he have a lace in case he forgets to tie his shoes and one breaks off?

Vendaval -> RE: Saggy Pants (3/3/2009 3:56:44 PM)

Ever see someone with their pants that low trying to ride a skateboard?  lol

DesFIP -> RE: Saggy Pants (3/3/2009 4:00:53 PM)

In prison both belts and shoe laces are forbidden to prevent suicides. So the same kids who wear baggy pants also shuffle around with untied shoes. They come right out of them when they run, lol.

I don't know why a long shoe lace, except he probably didn't have a belt of the right color to match the pants. His sister is less of a fashionista than he is. Hell, he owns more shoes than I do!

Asherdelampyr -> RE: Saggy Pants (3/3/2009 4:03:40 PM)

just try and keep him from going emo
you now the phrase, once you go emo you lose your testes :P

sirsholly -> RE: Saggy Pants (3/3/2009 4:04:54 PM)

belt or not...the fact that those pants stay up at all amazes me

Asherdelampyr -> RE: Saggy Pants (3/3/2009 4:05:35 PM)

its cause they are rebelling... against gravity man!!! all the cool kids are doing it :P

thornhappy -> RE: Saggy Pants (3/3/2009 4:07:14 PM)

It's not a "big city" fad either...I've seen saggers out in rural Ohio!  Wimmin, too, were spotted in my local Kroger store.  I was wondering if she had hidden suspenders to keep her pants on, since they were definitely on the downhill side of her butt!

Asherdelampyr -> RE: Saggy Pants (3/3/2009 4:08:14 PM)

with the wimmens it is just easy access, like the pants that zip up in the back

LOL

Don't have to worry about that. Between his older sister who would ride him mercilessly, his girlfriend and his allegiance to paintball - I think we're safe!

Asherdelampyr -> RE: Saggy Pants (3/3/2009 4:16:33 PM)

good :)

though paintball is disgustingly popular here and full of emo kids....
lets hope his girl doesnt dump him for a jock then, if she doesnt he should be ok

girlygurl -> RE: Saggy Pants (3/3/2009 4:19:22 PM)

I think it looks stupid as hell! I'm just glad my son never got into that.

DesFIP -> RE: Saggy Pants (3/3/2009 4:20:50 PM)

Emo painballers? New one on me. He's in prep school, everybody is a jock. Sports are mandatory. Basketball season is over and baseball coming our way. He plays third base.

Asherdelampyr -> RE: Saggy Pants (3/3/2009 4:22:21 PM)

oh yeah
around here paintball is all that there is, even the emo kids do it

DesFIP -> RE: Saggy Pants (3/3/2009 4:32:34 PM)

We have to wait for the field's to be free of snow. Apparently March 15th is opening day if we don't get a blizzard. And I'm a bad parent because I don't hang out and watch while freezing to death. I drop him off and go to the bookstore instead.

girlygurl -> RE: Saggy Pants (3/3/2009 4:36:46 PM)

It just dawned on me why they where their pants baggy.... It's to hide the big load of shit in their pants. [8D]

DesFIP -> RE: Saggy Pants (3/3/2009 4:45:48 PM)

ROFL.

Paintballers  all wear XXL stuff, but mainly so when they get hit, it's only the clothes and doesn't hurt.
