MARCH 3--Angered that her local McDonald's was out of Chicken McNuggets, a Florida woman called 911 three times to report the fast food "emergency." Latreasa Goodman, 27, last Saturday called police to complain that a cashier--citing a McDonald's all sales are final policy--would not give her a refund.

The human race amuses more and more everyday.  I have a friend that is a 911 dispatcher.  He says they get stupid calls like this all the time.

now what the lady should have done was call the number on the back of the receipt.  Usually fast food places have a customer quality or complaint number.  Just call it and usually they will send you a ton of coupons and chew out the managers at that location.

If she's going to call 911.  Then she should have called it to report a robbery.  Saying i was robbed at Mcds by worker there that took my money.  I have a description of the thief and name.  The cashier took my money for the order without giving me the product i ordered.  I have been robbed.  Then all the news story's about this would be McDonalds robs woman.

And the key is that when you report a crime like this, you call the local police station "non emergency" number.  If you don't have it, call 411 and ask, specifically, for the "non emergency" number.

She WAS trying to report that they took her money and did not give her what she paid for, which most people would call "theft."  She just didn't go about it the right way.  But the media saying she called 911 to report that McD's was out of chicken nuggets makes better headlines.

But Cali, you have to admit...she sounded like a dumb ass. Who in their right minds calls 9-11 for something like that? It's as Racquelle said, a non-emergency. You don't go to the cops, you go to your lawyer. :D

you dont even call the non-emergency number, you call the devision office, they will take care of it for you... It is a lot better and easier than calling the cops.

Every city in the country should prosecute the idiots making these 911 calls. The dispatchers and those who have to respond ( police, fire, ambulance ) have enough to do with legitimate emergency calls. Maybe a nice fine  and going before a judge would put an end to some of this. The money collected could be used to fund these dispatch centers..

And then she'd be arrested for filing a false report.  Too many people have learned how to play the system, they get tired of waiting for a cop to come for their stupid bs barking dog complaint, so they call 911 and say someone's got a gun.....yeah, they get a response then, but when I take those kinds of calls, I make sure they understand that if they really want to continue this call on a taped line, and it turns out they don't have a gun, then they will be going to jail.  Cops waste too much time on the stupidity of people as it is!  It's a pretty effective way of finding out the real story.....most folks would prefer NOT to go to jail.

I actually had a woman call 911 to get an officer to come "and arrest my son".....the 8 year old wouldn't eat his vegetables at dinner time.  I told her we aren't the kids parents, we wouldn't be responding, and that if the kid wouldn't eat his veggies, it's her problem, not the PD's.

One can only hope that the McDonald's rocket scientist isn't reproducing!

Actually, this isn't a crime at all...it's a civil matter.  Which means the police don't get involved, she can go to small claims court and sue the corporation for her money back.

Also, after hearing the calls she did make, she was probably acting all stupid and ignorant inside the McDonald's anyway.  Personally, I'd just have given her her money back just to get rid of her!

I read this and thought that it was strange that the gal taking the order was not aware that they were out of chicken nuggets.  Where was the store manager or shift manager?  It sounds like a whole lot of stupid going around this McDonald's.

A:  That they would go ahead and sell something that they were out of.
B:  That the cashier would misuse the "all sales are final" policy.
C:  That the shift manager did not resolve the situation themselves OR failing that, call the store manager for assistance.
D:  That anyone would get THAT upset about fast food.

LOL!  A friend of mine is a 911 person here, and citizens use the system to try and call cabs, all kinds of shit.

oh yeah.....
"911, what is your emergency?"
"What is today's date?"
        OR
"What time is it?"
        OR
"What's the phone number to.....(pick a place, ANY place, I've gotten them all!)
        OR
"HUH?  I didn't dial 911!"
         OR
just a "Click!"

And when we call the number back......."How did you get my number...it's unlisted!!"

I SOOOO wonder about the human race sometimes.......survival of the fittest ain't getting all the idiots!

She will be charged for the 911 call here in Florida. Filing a false 911 or abuse of the system has a mandatory fine (cost of the response) and possible jail time if the Judge thinks it is warranted. The only time I call 911 is if there is gunfire in the street, a fight, DV, Fire, accident or my neighbors alarm system goes off (they have had several break-ins).

As someone who actually worked for McDonald's when I was younger, I can tell you that each store is either an independently owned and operated franchise where the owner makes the decision or a corporate store. Regardless, the caller should have asked to speak with a manager or request the customer service number and file a complaint. Or contact corporate because they take their reputation serious and if a franchise has a history of problems, they can pull the licence. Since McD's is such a heavy money maker, most owners are willing to do whatever is necessary to keep their franchise licence. At the store where I was, we could easily do thousands of dollars of sales in the single lunch hour of 12-1 pm alone.

Now as someone who more recently worked in customer service, I can say she really f**ked up on this one. There are a lot better ways to handle it, including just growing up and realizing that if they're out of something, they're out and no hissy fit or calling the cops is going to change that. Seems to me that she deserves whatever happens..... *shrugs*
