I wouldn't doubt it Domi, the man is without a doubt a crime wave all unto himself...he has destroyed more lives than typhoid Mary.

Finally this country is waking up that the damage done by white collar guys far outweighs the guy with a gun in a liquor store.

This country has continually failed to prosecute these types of fuckheads in any type of a manner that equates with justice.

Rot in Hell, Bernie.
Well balancing out that particular inequity shoud not entail turning a blind eye to the fuckwad with the gun in the liquor store either.I say throw both types behind bars. They can compare notes....
Or perhaps become REALLY close friends, so to speak!.....Bernadette and His husband Bubba....what a cute couple.

My biggest regret in this is that Judy Sheindlin (Judge Judy) was not hearing the case.......she would have diced him up like fish at a sushi bar.....

Guess what?

He was never caught.

He had confessed to his sons and they turned him in.

The cops were either sleeping or on cool-aid or both...

Or Owner, and this is the cynic in me thinking out loud, his sons in an effort to escape prosecution themselves "turned in" dad right in front of the whole thing coming down on their heads. With daddy's heartfelt approval and  knowledge.

Afraid it just might be.....the quick guilty please seems to be another attempt to cut off at Madoff the scope of the prosecutions.

Cynical or not, I think that's exactly what happened.

...but I don't think it will necessarily work. The feds are making no secret that they're continuing to investigate the family. I heard an attorney on the Bloomberg Channel today saying that the fact that no tax charges were filed against Madoff is very odd, and suggests to him that at the least, additional tax charges are being investigated and may be soon be filed against his wife and perhaps sons. By pleading guilty, it seems to me he's giving away a lot of his bargaining power should such charges be filed. He can't very well offer to plead guilty again to buy leniency for his family.

Yes  Panda but a trial would have served for a great big discovery  smorgasbord. The authorities would have loved to have these witnesses on the stand under oath answering questions.

I know it, and that's what I just don't understand. I really want to know why the prosecution took the bat out of their own hands and let Madoff plead out. That's a question I'm really going to want an answer to at some point, and I think a lot other people are going to feel the same way. There'd better be a good reason for this, and unless a deal's already been cut that we don't know about, I'm having a hard time imagining what exactly would constitute a good reason.

Did the prosecution really have a choice Panda, any judge advised that a defendant wants to plead guilty to all counts of an indictment would be hard pressed to not allow it.Guilty is guilty what reason could the prosecution claim to go forward.Discovery for future prosecutions would not sit well in the judges chambers.

Oh Madoff is going to jail, and for the rest of his days. The question here is why does a man plead guilty while accepting the maximum possible sentence. The fear is that as MasterG alluded too,the accommodation received is no future indictments come down for either his wife or his 2 sons executives all in the family firm....

the question "why"  I think is the big key...

I believe the scam continues, that he accepted a jail sentence knowing he will not have to spend long in the jail cell and that is  the reason none of the finances is in his name, so nothing left to give back to investors.

I expect that within a short period of time an announcement will be made that Madoff is terminally ill. and that he will be then transferred to a hospital care setting and his accommodations will improve considerably for him to finish off his live in, his family gets to live off and enjoy the fruits of his scams and the government/justice system gets to say "we did our job"

I believe it to be nothing more than a show trial knowing he would not live long enough for a full trial  and that those all at the top of the case knows the circumstances and agreed in order to recover a bit of money and to say justice was served.
