You have my attention.  We need a clear way to measure who ends up to be correct.  A 3rd neutral person to hold the money/silver. (to then disperse it to the winner)

I'll do it. I'm neutral.

Kit is trustworthy.

The Kittin is okay with me....work out the details and you have a wager PA

The both of us, pay pal kit $10.   she then holds $20.   then, upon the outcome- she paypals the $20 to the dude that won the bet.

My outlook is that Madoff is not going to spend his entire life in prison.  That he will receive a different standard of justice then you or I.

We would need a deadline date to decide the winner and if none can be decided then, the $10 is returned to the original person.

It is very tempting to bump up the wager.  $50, $100.  heck, very tempting to up it much higher.

From what I understand, kd, The way it worked was this. Madoff took in 65  billion dollars during the course of his ponzi scheme. A goodly amount of this was used to provide payouts to his investors to make it appear that there was actual investments being made. Meanwhile, Madoff dipped into the money and took some for himself. Even if he took only 10% as his "fee", that's 6.5 billion to be found instead of 65 billion.

The best guesses I've heard from experts figure that the money is probably in Monaco. Monaco is one of only three countries who by their laws, absolutely will not cooperate in aiding the US to track down ill gotten gains. The other two have a GDP that is smaller than the amount Madoff probably deposited. Monaco, on the other hand, has enough deposits on it's balance sheets to absorb a couple of billion here and there without sounding alarm bells.

So...if I had to guess..I'd say there was a few billion sitting in Monaco for whoever Bernie gives it to.

Some say he will just get a few years then house arrest or some such...But if I were the judge there would be no leniency until all his money is accounted for.

I'll bet that will be the case.

That's fine by me, but you'll have to set it all up - I don't have a paypal account. Hey, I've been looking for a new career: I'd never thought bookmaker would be it, but why not? There's a certain gangsterish ring to it that appeals to my inner moll  .

(Easiest 20 bucks I've ever made mouahahahahaha.) (Kidding.)

Really PA,that seems like a lot of bother for $10 dollars, but as Kittin said set it up and I will certainly foward my end.A date would need to be agreed upon....how long does he rot in jail before you concede?

That's a problem. I think you should agree on that one before forwarding the dough *drool*.

I'll bet against that. Madoff is going to jail for a long time (at least 20 years at the outside if all his sentences run concurrently). I say this for several reasons:

1) He stole money from some very rich and powerful people who still have money and power. They are not going to be happy if Madoff gets a light sentence. They want him strung up by his balls for his entire sentence.

2) The money is gone. The best they're going to get back it ten cents on the dollar. Whatever it is, it's not enough to make everyone whole again and so he has little to trade.

3) Although he plead guilty to almost every count, the one he refused to plead to was conspiracy. Now everyone knows that he didn't do this whole thing on his own, but he's not ratting anyone out. That means that no judge is going to give him leniency when he still is trying to play things by his own rules.

4) Madoff is the most hated man in America at this time. Even the fair hands of justice aren't going to go out on a limb by giving him a light sentence.

If they do let this guy out of jail, it'll be when he has three months to live and they'll let him die in his own bed. Otherwise, Madoff is gone and gone for good.

Fast Reply -

Anyone wagering on how long until members of his family and his company are arrested?

Think they will be offered plea bargains if they turn over large amounts of
money?

Are all of their passports revoked and their assests seized?

This really has the makings of a novel and a movie deal too.

Somebody is going to write or start talking and make money off that information too.

The plot thickens...

Jeez, what a coupla suckers. You don't see how she's playing you? The term of the bet is going to be, what - 2 years? 3? She's just going to take your 20 bucks, stick it in a Ponzi fun... er, a mutual fund, and then sit back and rake in the interest. She's going to get rich off of both your asses. Like the wolf upon the fold she is, like the wolf upon the fold...

No offense, but what can you do for her that her avatar can't? She's the scariest poster on the site; she won't have any problem collecting.

If you're open to it, whatever part of the action he doesn't want you can lay off on me. Pick a number and let me know; I'll go as high as you want.

Kit is innocent here.   It was my idea for someone to hold the funds, so as to make it real.    However you are right, the soonest we would know the outcome is a few months to 3 years- min..  Alot can happen in that span of time.

I feel strongly that we have 2 tiers of justice in the US.

The loser can donate the $10 to one of madoffs victims, or to a charity.
