U.S. stimulus-related debt "could hurt investors," China warns
February 18, 2009

Increased borrowing by the United States to fund its massive stimulus package could cause the depreciation of U.S. dollar-denominated assets, Chinese economists have told Xinhua.

There will always be buyers of Americas debt and the single worst thing that dumb ass could do...was go public. He'll spook the speculators. It won't mean too much because currencies have no intrinsic value. Currency values are only in comparison to OTHER currencies. The US dollar remains the world's resevoir of value. We are all married to paper money, so...if one depreciates the currency OF COURSE you devalue assests purchased and valued by the dollar, or yuan, or yen or any currency.

China expresses her concerns over the dollar's value for a reason; they want a return on their investment.

I think that they're also concerned about being able to sell their goods over here.  The US is running a trade surplus for the first time in a long time (don't feel like looking it up) because our consumers are cutting back.  We're a huge market for China, and it's going to hurt their economy pretty seriously if we're not buying.

No shit?

And you mean this just started 7 weeks ago?

The new pork laden stimulus bill and Obama's spending did, yeah.  The Chinese seem to worried about it.  It's what the thread's about or did you not read all the posts?

Yep, read them all.

The post of yours I was replying to seemed to suggest that this was something new.

To refresh your memory of your own words:

People really don't understand what a dangerous game Obama and Co. are playing with the Chinese in terms of our economy.

This "game" didn't start with "Obama and Co.", it has been going on for a long time.

International Picture, February 15, 2008
* The U.S. trade deficit with China rose $23.7 billion (or 10.2%) to $256.3 billion, offsetting improvements in the trade deficit with other countries such as Canada, Germany, the U.K. and other EU countries, Taiwan, Brazil, and Chile.

I heard it on the news yesterday.  I thought I heard it a couple times.  I may be mistaken, and apparently am, since I can't find anything that would back it up.  Hubby remembers hearing that the deficit is the lowest it's been in ___, but didn't hear that it went to the positive.

That's what I get for relying on my memory.

I think I heard the same, but while the gap may have narrowed I don't think it ever rose from being a deficit.

China is a force that, I dont think they are as un-sophisticated as we assume they are.  When we "won" the cold war, communism was said to be dead.   Huh?    We paid more attention to little old Cuba then the China!

China has 5000 years of culture behind them.  They have more experience at governing massive amounts of people.  They as well as Japanese and Asians in general- are hard working people.

For the most part China minds its own business.  It abstains from most/many UN votes.  It views the internal affairs of another country as internal, not external.

Way back, the East India company traded opium with the Chinese for spices.  This rendered a segment of the population drug addicts. The East India  company got rich by this exploitation.

China plays games with its currency just as we do.   I dont think China is as arrogant as we are.   Case in point- the killing of their FDA director.    It was prompt and decisive.   Imagine if China was in charge of punishing the USA ruling elite criminals?

IMO both countries used eachother the past few decades.

The recent incident in the ocean tho- I dont trust China OR the USA to dislose the correct story.  Neither one is credible.

So by China vocalizing this above statement, uncharacteristic of them.   But well deserved of us.

Do you actually know how much pork is in the stimulus bill?  Or do you just get all your information from Hannity and Cavuto?
