I can get where I need to go but cannot have a conversation in the following languages

Spanish, German, Japaneese, Mandarin

And I am starting to get the hang of English.

English, some French (though I read it much better than I can speak) and ASL/SEE (American Sign Language and Signed Exact English). I was a signing interpreter at an old church. Muy poquito Espanol and a smattering of Japanese. (Hey, I lived in Japantown in California, you start picking it up after a while especially since the shop and resturant owners and workers almost all speak Japanese there.)

Oh ya, and at one point I had a smattering of Italian and Russian as well because I was a receptionist at an international company and had to be able to answer the phone in any language that someone might call in...

I speak English fairly well most of the time.  I am fluent in Suth-ren.  A little Spanish & French.  A Norwegian drinking toast.  Text & typonese.  A smattering of Chinese.

Conversational basic French, enough Spanish to get by, Korean, Japanese and Chinese *cantonese very basic. I took a Japanese refresher course 2 years ago and my brain bled. Holy cow the things you forget when you get older. I can curse fluenty in all of Asia though.

Really, Steel it's just a smattering, what I picked up on a trip there.  I love languages, so learned as much as I could while I was there.  It's such a difficult language to speak due to different vocal inflections changing the entire meaning of the words, that I'm quite shy to try it out loud much.

Damn. Had I known that 'langues mortes' were acceptable I would have mentioned ancient Greek as well: I took it for five years at school - although I have yet to meet someone who can converse in it (or in Latin, for that matter) other than a seminarist.
