well as far as the ban on programs making fun of the election, well that is news to me, and there will be a lot of programs being charged with whatever crime that is, because i didn't notice any lessening of it.
The preachers speaking against homosexuality is not true, they may (and do) speak for or against it. What is illegal is to do so in a way to incite crimes against homosexuals.
and as for the headscarves, that is completely false, many many muslim women wear their head scarves, it is their choice, the only legal issue regarding them that I can recall is that a man (in toronto I believe) tried to force his wife to wear the head scarf at all times, and it was ruled that the woman had the right to decide for herself.
If the truth be told, the differences between our two countries are really pretty slight, and superficial.
We tend to be a bit further left than Americans, our right wing would be considered a bit to lefty by most of the G.O.P. and our left wing...well let's just put it this way, their most popular leader in recent memory was nicknamed Ed the Red.
We do have some loony laws and so on, particularly a growing trend to give "group rights" precedence over individual rights, and our hate crime laws are somewhat bizarre in their application at times.

and as an aside to subtlesubie: what is the point of posting and then hiding? are you really that afraid of fangsnfeet's response? or are you just simply chikenshit? As far as I am concerned, if you don't have the guts to say your bit openly, then shut the fuck up.

it appears to be pretty good, seems to have a slightly Conservative bent to it, but given the election win and the fact that the Liberal party is pretty much in a leaderless limbo (meaning in a shambles) right now that isn't surprising really.

And just so nobody assumes I am a Liberal or anything else, I have at one time or another voted for nearly every party going, except for the communist party or the marxist-leninist party....they just never seemed to have a platform that even vaguely appealed to me. I will readily admit to not liking the present Conservative party, or its leader, but in the end I don't really see what difference it makes which gang of theives picks my pockets.

I would have figured by now that subtlesubie would have said something by now. This person must be all plate and not bat.

I myself also find it interesting that you neglected to post your thoughts about the OP. If I posted something that wasn't correct, then why not correct me instead of going "That's not smart."

Calling someone stupid will never win a debate. Surely that wasn't your best shot. Come on, let's see what ya got? As of now you're only showing Jack and Shit and Jack went home.

Well.... I for one am glad you brought this up, just from the perspective that most Americans are unaware that while Canada is a great country, tolerant, with many fair laws, the area that surrounds ''free speech'' is a little murky.

And believe me... like the intrusive Patriot act here in the states, its not the Canadian citizenry on a whole that's stood behind and/or promoted laws that would encumber freedom of speech/freedom of thought, it's special interest groups{Like the Anti Defamation league} and activist/autocratic politicians who work their magik flying under the radar screen.
