recently ive seen a post about sub's being helped to lose weight, and im curiose as an overwieght Dom ( ie fat) where do others find the internalized self dicpline and fortitude to lose weight what really drives them. in most things i have a lot of will but when it comes to losing wieght it always seems to come up short and ive been trying. mostly i attribute it to the fact i love food of all kinds and lots of it ( and by food i dont mean fast food) what really helped others get over it.

LaTigresse -> RE: Dom weight (3/15/2009 5:41:03 PM)

This last fall I found myself facing a weight problem that had been building for about a year. Something I have never had a problem with my entire life. Age, hormones, desk job, all seems to have caused a change in how my body metabolizes the food type and quantities I've always eaten.

I simply realized that I had to do what was best for me. How in the hell could I possibly expect a slave to be disciplined if I couldn't do it myself.

Now, I count calories and I force myself to exercise for the sake of exercise. Neither was something I had ever done or had a reason to do, before. I've lost 30 pounds so far.

It's not easy, I don't eat properly every single day. I allow myself to indulge once in awhile. If I didn't I couldn't stick to it. I don't have a deadline of weight or time. I am focused on being healthy AND on being a good example for the people around me.

Sir Daddy -> RE: Dom weight (3/15/2009 6:03:58 PM)

I quit smoking...and within 6mos, I had put on 40 friggin' lbs.  Not that it's surprising.  I was stuffing my face constantly.  lol

Well, I'm 6'3".  210lbs really isn't bad for someone my height.  But self-image is a bitch.  I was slender my entire life until then.  Even though I looked pretty "average" to most people, I felt like a big fat cow.  And when I started exercising, I was mortified to feel parts of me jiggling that never jiggled before.  Totally creeped me out...

I've always been a pretty healthy eater, but I cut back on what little junk food I did consume (said goodbye to my beloved Mountain Dew), started eating a higher percentage of fruits/veggies and began an exercise routine mixing lots of cardio with some weights.  Now I'm on my way back to where I want to be and I feel friggin' great about it.  =)

OrionTheWolf -> RE: Dom weight (3/15/2009 6:38:28 PM)

I used to love food, until I became overweight for a few years. I decided that food was not going to be my Master. I cut out all meats, except for seafood or poultry once a week. I started drinking only water, no soda, tea, milk, etc. I increased by fresh fruits and veggies, though I hate most veggies I looked at it as medicine. I started getting more continuous exercise via walking, even if it was just walking up and down my apt stairs outside.

Keeping myself busy so that the boredom munchies did not set in helped the most.

I dropped from 240 to 210 in about 6 months, and then down to 190 in another 3. Basically I wanted to look and feel better than my desire for the food. I used my own ego, being better looking and physical stamina, to beat my desire for delicious foods.

Now I just make sure to eat smaller meals, get exercise, and lots of sex.

DarkSteven -> RE: Dom weight (3/15/2009 7:13:05 PM)

I take carb blockers and I've lost maybe ten pounds.

IronBear -> RE: Dom weight (3/15/2009 7:28:26 PM)

I gained body fat rather than weight after my legs (especially my left knee) gave out from osteo-arthritis and my long walks and running was curtailed to short hobbling with a stick. At 64, most people don't expect me to get fit again once my left knee is replaced.. Self imaging and the pleasure of being fit will give me the drive to loose the body fat and regain the hard muscles. Probably will never be the trim, taught and terrific level of body looks of my younger days but at least passable. I put on additional weight when I quit smoking and lost the excess fat when I started smoking again but switched exclusively to my pipes and the daily Cuban cigar. I've been the 130+ kgs (285 lbs approx) most of my adult life so I see no reason to loose too much weight.

domcypher -> RE: Dom weight (3/15/2009 8:20:16 PM)

I'm not fat by any means, 6'2" 165lbs. But I know a thing or two about maintaining my weight. The main problem most people seem to face (and I face it myself occaisionally) is when it comes to actually working out. The first couple weeks, you're going to hate it (or you should if you're doing it right). But... once you look in that mirror and notice your pants getting baggy, you'll be hooked. when it comes to food, reduce your portions, eat LOTS of veg, try to cut back on the red meat. fish is GREAT. try to keep it to 3 meals a day, and snack on something like almonds, fruit or something like that. try not to eat before you go to bed. drink water. lots of water.

ChelseaNY -> RE: Dom weight (3/15/2009 9:30:45 PM)

I am a full figured gurl, and i have honestly never really had a problem with the way i am, some would find me attractive others would not.  Now that i am seriously working towards making my final transition and getting both the srs surgery and breast implants, i have no choice but to lose the weight.  To have the surgery i must be at most a certain weight.  So i have joined a gym and i am loving it, altho i had to realize that i needed to overcome my aversion to people seeing me doing exercises which well as a big gurl might not be flattering lol.  Also i eat 3 small meals a day, but i make sure to have 2-3 healthy snacks throughout the day too.  Any good dietitian will tell you eating 5-6 smaller meals or snacks will give your body energy and help you lose weight much faster.  You need to find something you desire and make it your motivation.

IronBear -> RE: Dom weight (3/16/2009 12:20:37 AM)

I enjoy a morning work put as it leaves me with a possitive and energenetic energy boost for the day. I know a good many professionals and corporate guys who work out before work for that reason.

HeavansKeeper -> RE: Dom weight (3/16/2009 2:05:59 AM)

Something important to remember is that bodies are different. There's no miracle diet or system which can appease every body. Don't try to fight the body - it wins. First, try to ascertain what your body wants to look like. Mine wants to be stout. Kinda pudgy, very muscular, thick, wide. I wish I was the long and wirey type, but its not in the cards. Don't bother striving for something nature is fighting. Twas a foolish man to build his house upon the sand.

Also, ascertain if you, the general you, are a bulk eater or a quality eater. There's no shame in which category you fall into. Some people enjoy the filling feeling of a big meal, others enjoy the taste and flavors of food... I've heard tell of some possessed souls who don't even like eating, but they're not welcome here. [:D]

There's a simple test for this... Get a bag of plain rice cakes and open it. If you eat them, you're a bulk eater. Plan accordingly. Focus on salads, low glycemic carbs, airy foods (like whipped products, popcorn, puffed rice) and low calorie/high mass snacks to be sated.

You can work out like a dog and lose 130 calories. The real weight loss comes from a healthy diet and an increased basal metabolic rate (how many calories your body needs to not die and hang out on CM). Higher energy levels and more muscle mass, both initiated from working out a little, raise this running cost (which is a good thing for weight loss).

While people respond differently to specific diets, I have two bits of advice:
1) Don't trust gimmick diets. Atkins, South Beach, Potato Diet, Cookie Diet... They often play on the bodies defenses to malnutrition. You have the internet. You're too rich to be malnourished.
2) Learn to like chicken breast (and other high protein, low fat, tasty foods). Most fish, tofu (miso soup please..), turkey, etc. can make a healthy main dish to most diets.

If I was forced to dish out a general diet, I'd say "Eat 1/10th the deep fried stuff, leave 1/2 the rice or pasta from each dish, eat more greens, choose healthier meats, do 10 pushups."

We all know what we need to do. It's not rocket surgery... It's just getting off your ass, walking to the market, and learning to love stir fried vegetables.

... Which reminds me! Properly fried items are not particularly unhealthy. Hot, clean, new oil and sufficiently moist foods mean oil doesn't seep into the food. A whole bucket of perfectly friend chicken should have less than a tablespoon of oil in it. Just a thought...

The only thing I disagree with is leaving out the rice. I suggest looking at Chinese diets and the bodies who eat them. Mostly Chinese meals are well balanced and are seasigned for people who eat more often and eat less.  The best dietry advise I was given both before and after developing T2 Diabetes was to eat what you want (using common sence) but eat in moderation and according to your activities. I eat more red meat when I expect to be rapidly burning energy; drink additional coffee when I expect to need the cafine induced adrenaline blast. I then revert to a healthy balance of meats with preference of fish, carbs and low sugar..

LaTigresse -> RE: Dom weight (3/16/2009 4:25:27 AM)

Using fast reply...

Another thing to keep in mind, not only does activity play a huge role in how a person should eat but this is definitely one area that gender and age, will play a role also.

The internet has many great resources, especially if you tap into the medical community rather than all the fad diet sites and miracle pill sites.

sambamanslilgirl -> RE: Dom weight (3/16/2009 4:30:33 AM)

Daddy maintains his weight by taking out rice and some pasta, red meat and other things out of his diet. He adds more fish, chicken, veggies and fresh fruit to it.  plus He's very active with His tennis lessons/games 3 times a week.

Jeptha -> RE: Dom weight (3/16/2009 11:29:38 AM)

I'm surprised at how little people around me know about dietery stuff, myself included.
Though ~ I seem to have grasped some things fairly intuitively somehow.

I'm constantly tinkering with my diet, just substituting little things and leaving others out.
Trying to see what the differences are.

Right now, there's no fast food (well, ok... the occasional burrito), no potatoes, no pasta, no hydrogenated oils, no donuts or most baked goods (bagels or bread in the morning being an exception), no potato chips or ice cream, and no corn syrup (as well as I can manage to avoid it.)

I try and use little butter. I cook with olive oil.

Trying to figure out what to have for snacks is tricky. Fruit is good, but sometimes I want a few crackers and some cheese with it.

I agree that more meals that are lighter are better for me than huge ones, though the day seems to be set up for one or two huge meals. Or perhaps that's mostly habit.

I think I'm pretty happy with my present diet, though I want to add more vegetables. Unfortunately, I don't like raw vegetables, though I do like many cooked. I also want to learn more about how to eat well and balance my diet.

I remember quitting smoking; I ate more, so I made sure to treat myself to better food during that time, splurged on top shelf fruit juices, and so on.

Mostly, though, I used my symptomology to work for me; I had gotten to the point that going up stairs winded me. So when I was quitting, I would just go up and down the stairs a few times whenever I was tempted to have a cigarette.

I would get my lungs huffing and wheezing to where I wouldn't have wanted a cigarette even if I could have one.

Eventually this required more and more activity to do; shooting baskets, and then actually running. This evolved into the first and only time I've ever run purely recreationally.
The nice side effect was all that activity not only kept my lungs too occupied to miss smoking, but it helped keep the weight from the extra food I might have been eating in check.

for me it is the ability to control myself that brings me satisfaction..lol and a smaller dress size!.loosing weight starts in the mind...i learned that the food is not the problem...it is my reaction to it. i eat healthy and enjoy the food i eat...always remembering that " being thin is better then anything tastes". i do know it is a struggle and i wish you luck!

IronBear,

That's an excellent point. Rice can make up the basis of a very healthy diet, as seen in most of (by population) the world. It's why I don't like having to give one diet... My local community, fat hispanic jews, could afford to knock off some (half) of the rice. Their sedentary lifestyle and the other parts of their diet render the extra energy to be kept as fat.

Also, arguably, there are genetic aspects at work in the digestion of food.

4u2spoil -> RE: Dom weight (3/16/2009 12:50:58 PM)

(fast reply)
I had weight creep up on me after I started spending more time at my desk, and less time going out and moving around. I've never been huge on junk food, but I have a huge sweet tooth that's lessened only a little bit with age. Most of my time is spent in the pastry and bread capital of the world, which probably didn't help. I eat plenty of veggies, fruit and mostly skinless chicken when it comes to meat. Very little alcohol and no cigarettes, but the lack of exercise was the main thing that had me wondering why my old clothes all shrunk a size.

I have to second what HeavansKeeper suggested in not fighting your body though. I've always been hippy and had a muffin top. No matter how much weight I gain, not one ounce goes to my skinny legs (which I actually like now). Don't go in with a goal that's unrealistic for your body type to start, and I'd  say don't become obsessive about food. Think about how much you're eating, but don't deny yourself the things you really want or you'll never stick with anything.

And finally, move around more. A lot of people like to focus on diet, but for most people who lose a lot of weight, a healthy diet isn't the reason. There are a lot of fat people who eat normal sized portions of healthy foods and are still fat. There are skinny people who eat deep fried, sugar covered, cheese covered monstrocities and they're still skinny. Exercise isn't the most fun, but it gives the best results. Plus, if you just increase the exercise, you may not have to alter your diet very much.

I've found that 10-15 minute bits of exercise are the easiest for me to stick with. I climb a total of 14 flights of stairs everyday, do resistance band training for arms, upper body and butt, and a thigh master type device (no laughter) for hips/thighs and easier crunches. I break them up over the course of the day, which makes it a bit easier.

ChelseaNY -> RE: Dom weight (3/16/2009 1:01:11 PM)

Rice and pastas are good if you use whole grain, and even then you should watch the amount you eat because of the carbs involved.  While carbs are good for energy, it also becomes sugar in your system.  So any food you eat that is higher in carbs should also be higher in fiber.  Good carbs are those that come with a high fiber content as opposed to a high sugar content.  Regular pasta and rice are not the best choice.  I worked at a chinese restaurant for a long time and of course they ate nothing on the menu, they ate alot of soups and tofu, chicken and seafood.  They also ate the rice in a rather gooey kind of soupy way, as opposed to regular sticky rice.  I learned much later that you can reduce the carbs in pasta and rice by actually slightly overcooking it, i know some people prefer an al dente texture but if you are looking to lose weight then you pay attention to all the little tricks.

I have no delusions of ever being a barbie lol and i am quite happy with getting down to a 12-14.  So you do need to know your body type, endo, ecto, mesomorph, whatever you are.  As for being malnourished, you see alot of people in countries where they are starving and they are bloated and have big bellies.  Nutrition is the key and not only feeding your body correctly, but steadily to keep it energized, and using that energy throughout the day.

LaTigresse -> RE: Dom weight (3/16/2009 1:09:25 PM)

I am a huge huge fan of walking, especially tackling the hills near where I work. Lunchtime if it's not too hot outside, right after work if I've carpooled and it's not too cold out. Or in the fields around my house.

This year I purchased a piece of exercise equipment I actually use and like, for when the weather discourages me from walking. An eliptical and I love it. I make myself do one of the two, 30-40 minutes at least 4 days a week. It sits in front of the sliding glass doors so I can watch the wildlife in the valley and my horses being goofy. (or have the bejesus scared out of me by a stray cat peeking in at 10pm at night in the dark!!)

I have to say that exercise, as much as I hate to admit it, is the key ingredient I was leaving out for most of a year. Now that I am doing it, I am seeing results I am happy with. AND, tossing around 50 bales of hay.......twice, was a lot easier this last weekend than it was last October.
